Nurses General Nursing

I've moved to Northern California three months ago and I have been applying non stop since then. I've received emails that say the positions have been filled, others say I don't qualify for the position I've applied for. I've gone in person to speak with human resources/ recruitment to personally leave my resume. I don't know what to do. I got my hopes up when I was connected with someone who is a lead nurse, that told me they would give my resume to their boss, but nothing happened on that end. I know I don't have years of experience ( 1.5 years on the floor and 10 months at a SNF) Should I apply for an entry level? I don't know what to do.

You're in a horrible market ....even for very experienced, well-connected nurses. Is there a reason you have to live there?

My husband was relocated here for his work.

You probably have enough experience to get work through an agency. I get emails from recruiters on a daily basis and they often tout openings in California. It may not be ideal, but it could lead to a permanent position in time.

Where in Northern California?

@GM2RN do you recommend any particular agency? Thank you for the suggestion. At this point I'll take anything. For one I don't want to lose practice and for the other I need to pay bills.

I have never worked for an agency and don't know them well enough to recommend one. However, I've considered it and went so far as to start some research, so I know enough to advise you to really do you homework before accepting a contract. There are lots of resources online as well as threads on AN that can help with this. Also check out the nursing specialties section here on AN and look for Agency Nursing. They can lead you to resources and maybe even be able to recommend one or more agencies.

@GM2RN I applied to Nurse Choice on Thursday and got a call next day Friday with offers. I'm not too familiar with agency nurse either but I thought that was quick. Maybe because it just takes so long to hear from other employer prospects. I appreciate the advice and I will be sure to do plenty of research before I accept.

Not sure where my comment went. But I worked with Response 1 a few years ago and liked them. Also, you might want to look for a travel assignment but not take the housing. This is a good way of getting a staff job.

I am curious too. What part of Northern CA?

(We true Northern CA folks :) think Northern CA is Sacramento and up. I'm 4 hours north of Sac and we really need nurses here!).
