Four 10's or Five 8's? Which would you do?

I've been offered a job in an oncology office and I'm ecstatic! I have a choice because they have two positions open right now....4 10-hour days a week or 5 8-hours a week. I currently do 3 12's at a hospital and I don't like it. I don't like not being available for my kids evening activities and missing church things, etc, on days that I work. I DO like having 2 days off during the week, though. It's nice having weekday time at home.

The 8 hour shifts are either 7:30 - 4:00 or 9:30 to 6:00, alternating each week. The 10 hour shifts are 7:30 - 6:00. The day off rotates through (Monday one week, Tuesday the next, etc) so that every 5th week you have a 4 day weekend! (Friday one week, Monday the next.)

What would you choose?

I think I'm leaning towards the 10's....

Four 10's for you, three 12's for me. :p

4 10s! But I don't have kids, so I don't have to worry about that.

I used to work 3 14's, and now 3 12's. So I would say do the 4 10's but that's just me. I like to work only a few days a week. I would die if I had to go back to working five 8 hour days! But from what you have said, it sounds like that might work out best for you?

I've work 5 8-hour shifts my whole career and would KILL for the chance to work 4 10's.

My fantasy schedule would be 3 8-hour shifts ... but I still need full time employment at this point of my life.

Gah- I wish all hospitals had that schedule. If I were you I would do the 10's fo sho. That would be perfect!

I agree with the others, go for the 4 - 10's. But then again I really love 3 - 12's.

Hands down.....4 10's

I also would choose the 4 10's. The rotating days off isn't a problem and having a 4 day weekend is nice ontop of that, especially when you have kids.

Specializes in Geriatrics/Retirement Residence.

I would pick the 4-10's for sure! :)
