Does your supervisor call & text you at all hours?

I am getting tired of my supervisor calling and texting me from a personal cell phone to ask me if I will work. It even happens during the night. I used to answer or reply back everytime but I am just so tired of it sometimes I just don't respond. I feel bad not responding.

Have you had this happen to you?

Do you always respond?

Thanks for your reply.

I work night shift. My managers got into the ignorant habit of calling me at 1100 or 1300 or some other nonsense. This immediately ceased when I began returning their calls at 2300 and 0100.

Me:"Hey, this is Bortaz, RN. I'm returning your call!"

Them: "OMG, don't you realize it's 1AM!?"

Me: "Oh, did I wake you? My bad."

Oh brilliant!!!! My phone is always on silent when I'm sleeping, so they can just enjoy my voicemail :)

I do get calls and texts regarding work offers. I usually ignore them unless I want the extra hours. I find it easy to say No, and I have to admit if it is a call for staffing I am not irritated. Your supervisors job in part is to find staffing, so for them to call is part of their job. I did, however, explain to people that I go to bed very early, after getting multiple calls after 11:30 pm....they now have a thing on the Call list that I would prefer to be called at 4 am than at 11:30 pm. (I really would!) I don't blame anyone for trying to staff a shift as I hate working short...I think it goes with the territory- though I admit, a little common sense about when to place calls goes a long way too!

Good advise but I only have a cell phone...

When I was a supervisor I would actually leave messages....Sorry just your friendly neighborhood stalker here......I would call everyone I could in hopes of a yes. I am just as responsible for the staffing as you are. I even accidentally called people on vacation and talked to them on the beach in Cabo.:o (sorry guys) Personally I think it's harder for someone to say NO when they are actually talking to you so I probably wouldn't text.

Get one of those cheap prepaid cell phones.......make work use only that line, if you don't want to work don't answer.....and don't feel guilty!!!! While some supervisors attempt the guilt trip (shameful) I will barter days off sometimes more pay (if I am really desperate) to sweeten the deal.

I know sometimes places are ALWAYS critically staffed but also Remember, if your co-workers didn't call out I wouldn't be calling.

I have always HATED that 1100am call...."We thought we would let you sleep.....but could you?????" Just burns me up.

If I called you 3 hours after you went to bed "WOULD I WAKE YOU??????" (that felt good:lol2:)

NOBODY at work has my cell phone number, and I never answer the landline phone if it's from the hospital. I listen to the voice mail after they hang up. I am not on call for this hospital, and I refuse to be treated as such.

If you only have a cell phone, you could always assign a special ring tone for your supervisor. My choice would be "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap." LOL When you hear that ring tone, you know to ignore the call - without even having to look at the caller ID.

I'd probably get their phone number from my caller ID and call them in the middle of the night the next time I worked night shift. LOL But I'm just mean like that.

lol work will never get anything but my voicemail. And no I won't come in on 3 hours sleep. No I won't do 20 hour shifts, NO I won't work day then have a day off then do night, then day, then night... NO NO AND NO.

Well, I'm the total minority. I do NOT give out my landline to my employer. I am PRN and I would MUCH prefer my supervisor text me. I answer yes or no by text, give no reason and have never had a problem with it. When I'm sleeping, I put it on mute. I can't put my landline on mute easily, so this system works great for me.
