Daisy Award on Badge for New Grad

Tough call ... I can imagine that not everyone might agree on the best answer to your question. Here is my take:

If you had won the award working at another place, then I wouldn't wear it to start a new job as a new grad. Sometimes, it is politically wise to enter a new workplace quietly, without a lot of fanfare.

However, since you won the award while being an employee of the same unit where you will be working as a new grad, then I would continue to wear it in your new role. You new job is simply a promotion in the same unit, a reflection of your professional development within the same team.

I came here to give the same advice.

In all honesty, if you show up on time, do your work, answer call lights, stay out of gossip, and ask lots of thoughtful questions- I doubt a pin will cause a negative impression. I suspect if you managed to win an award as a student you're well on your way to success.

I would throw it in the river. I've only seen two people get them, and they both got fired shortly afterwards. Those things are bad luck.

I would honestly say wait a little while and then wear it proudly since you were awarded the Daisy. The problem I see would have more to do with you receiving the award when you weren't officially a nurse, but the entity shouldn't have given it to you in the first place because of that simple fact. Just being honest, not meaning to hurt any feelings, but your peers may feel differently.

According to the Daisy award web site the awards can be given to nursing students, nursing faculty, nursing leaders, and a team of 2 or more people headed by a nurse in addition to individual nurses.

Wear it! I won a Daisy too :) It is nice to be recognized! The previous poster is correct, we have had students and aides awarded where I work :) Our unit as a whole also was awarded for our care of NAS babies that a foster family wrote about :)

I wouldn't wear it, but that's just me. But unless you come across as one of those know-it-all grads that we see too frequently now, I probably wouldn't care one way or the other if you came to my unit wearing it. Good luck with your knew job.

If wearing awards and pins is part of the unit culture, go for it. If you aren't sure, wait and see what goes on on the unit; then decide.

Wear your daisy award badge and be proud. You earned it so wear it. Who cares what others think. I would not think you are being entitled at all.
