CNA from hell!

For one moment I'm going to vent about one particular person who made my job hell along with many other people. I would like to say that CNA's are very special people. They have a job that most people wouldn't have. This particular person does a very good job making sure her residents are clean, dry and comfortable. However....She has the most terrible attitude of any CNA I have ever met. She is so mean:crying2: She is a "twenty-something ghetto diva" who has foul-mouthed responses for every thing you say to her. She is a terrible gossip and an instigator. I have complained to my DON, and she said she would sign her up for anger management classes:angryfire . When she had a talk with this CNA she told her the nurses were intimidated by her and she needed to chill! HELLO? This fueled the fire. How unprofessional is that?! It's sad when not only can you build a friendly relationship with your coworkers but nurses are afraid to ask her to do anything because she goes off the deep end. In case ya'll didn't know, I work at the Saddam and Gamora of nursing homes. How can you handle a person like this professionally? I have recently left this shift but she has my friend in tears every day.

First off, people like that thrive off of the weakness of others. If she knows she gets to people like that, she enjoys it.

Secondly, does your facility have a policy against the foul mouth words? This was ground for write-ups at the places i worked as a CNA. Start a papertrail.

If the DON isn't doing anything about this person, take it to the administrator. They aren't either, go the next step up. This person will only do this as long as they can get away with it.

(Her pts. may be clean and dry, but is she acting like this to them or around them? That's abuse as well)

She sounds more like a faker than a diva to me. She's only doing this because you all are allowing her to get away with it. Who is her direct supersivor? Has this woman been spoken to and written up about her attitude? If not, then she's only partially to be blamed for this situation. She needs to be told that if she doesn't fix her attitude she'll be fired. Plain and simple.

"twenty something ghetto diva"? lol, i think imay know a few of those.

can you write her up, or can only her supervisor? if you can write her up, do it.

if not, keep a log of all of her foul-mouthed responses-what she says when you ask her to do something. if the DON won't listen, go over her head. you shouldn't have to put up with an attitude

Yep,, ive found the ones like that that like to try to intimidate do it so they dont have to answer for their actions and get out of anything extra someone might ask of them. Id pile the extra little jobs on her so far she would have to dig out with a coal shovel. Keep her so busy she doesnt have time to open her foul mouth. When she refuses tasks,, take that to the DON.

Even though her patients are clean, id bet she has them intimidated to the point they are scared of her. Thats special. They need to get rid of her, clean bottoms or not.

You didn't mention, but one problem I have with CNA's like you described is, where I work, they belong to a very strong union. It can be next to impossible to get them fired.

I wonder if your "diva" has a twin sister where I work? My diva has a big foul mouth, and very coorifice manners. The "f" word is used as an adjective to every noun she speaks. She comes to work in her pajamas! And she refuses to listen, because "she knows better than anyone else what should be done." And don't try to tell her anything, cause she goes ballistic, and people give in just to shut her up.

It infuriates me but it seems nothing can be done. She has been written up numerous times but nothing ever comes of it. And I'm told management is sorry but .............. Aarrgh!! Hope you have better luck with your problem!

Make sure she doesn't pull off any NG's on purpose to make you do more work. Alot of CNA's are cruel out there.

Boy this is a timely post. I have been up all night b/c I am dealing with similar situation. I am a new nurse and am really needing to concentrate on my job right now but last night I spent probley 75% of my shift performing ADLs. When there is work to be done I can never find this particular CNA or she is on the phone screaming at her boyfriend.

I feel intimidated by her due to the fact that I am so new and she has a way of twisting things around to make me look like an idiot.

I really think I made a BAD med error last night b/c I was so over-whelmed I wasnt paying as much attention as I should have to my pts. I gave my 95 y/o pt his BP medication, and on the way home I remebered that his BP had been like 88/44. CRAP!!!!! What if he bottomed out last night?

I feel terrible... I havent been able to sleep all night and right now I am just waiting for my nurse manager to get in so I can call her.

Does anyone have any advice/suggestions for me? Please help.

This to me is the number one healthcare crisis, finding aides that want and care about their jobs. The pay is low, the background checks are not being done, and they are not being certified properly.I witnessed a aide swearing at a patient, as I was walking over to tell her about it, I witnessed her pushing the patient into their room. This girl went out with a bang, when approached by the adm. she walked out saying some rather horrible language, and made sure all heard her as she left. What worries me about the aide you speak of is, even though she shows some care in keeping the patients dry and clean, with her attitude towards others and her temper, i would worry about what you don't see her do when she is alone with the patients....HUGE PROBLEM>>>this is big and its not being addressed as it needs to be!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, bad CNAs and other unlicensed assistive personel are a BIG problem. An even worse problem are managers and administrators who turn a blind eye to the problem and even encourage it.

Any CNA that would do something like that needs to lose more than her job. She needs to lose her cert and go work for Burger King. :angryfire

Report her to the State if you suspect something like that, don't waste a minute. That's abuse.

A lot of these places are so hard up they will keep anybody (as long as they are not mean to the residents)
