Being a nurse for all the wrong reasons.

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I see so many sour faced nurses no matter which facility I go into. Sure, there are many problems that face the profession of nursing each day. But is it fair to the patients to be in a depressed or dissatisfied state of mine? We chose this profession for good reasons I hope. I see many threads on this website that offer a heap of problems with the underlying theme, "We are getting screwed!." With a pessimistic attitude how can any change come about? Let us remain positive despite many incidents of poor treatment of nursing. Let us pull out the positives in this profession and make a change. Our patients deserve this. Let us refuse nothing less than the God-given right to be content and happy. Let us become a harmonious voice spreading good news among our co-workers and supportive of our staff administration. Let us admit our faults and move on.

Life is too short to piss it away on a measure of unhappiness.

I agree with tweety.Sometimes you just have to go on about your business or evrything will drive you crazy.I loved the comment about putitng on rose colored glasses.I had a charge nurse throw a set of narc keys at me not long ago, almost hitting me in the face(I ducked).:) She didn't get in trouble and she proeeded to verbally lash me the next day in front of everyone and then try to tell everyone I started it(despite a roomfull of witnesses).well, that was the last time she will dare do that. They always say it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for.Now they all look at me in a different lite, but they leave me alone. After that i just simply walk away from the sourpusses in midsentence(for them) with a smile on my face.I was accused by management of always having a smile on my face(overheard by me by accident).Really it does work great and it drives the offending party insane that they can't rattle me with their politics.:p

I've posted a few threads like this and see no problem with it. It disappoints me that so many negative comments were made to the OP. We can ***** all we want ... but we can also be positive all want, too. Isn't this forum here for everyone?

And moondancer, how do you define troll? This person has 67 posts ... you have just over 100 ... they posted what they felt and were ridiculed for it. That's not a troll.

I know life is not always positive, but we can make a difference with our attitudes. I'm not saying walk around with a stupid smile even when you're being screwed. But a smile every now and then does wonders. For the people around you and for yourself.

SCRN, Perhaps you need to look up the definition of being an internet "troll". The NUMBER of posts has nothing to do w/being a troll. Using the term "troll" indicates the poster is just posting to stir up "trouble", intentionally cause problems, etc.

Also, perhaps you need to research the threads that "tgibson" starts. They are consitently uninformed, negative, rude, and/or preachy. Personally, I don't take anything he says seriously, as everything he starts usually creates havoc. Perhaps, when he grows up, graduates and really starts working as a nurse he will have some constructive comments, I am not even going to address all the things don't sit right w/this thread....starting w/the title "becoming a nurse for all the wrong reasons....".

As is typical of the OP...thread is initiated, controversy is created, the rest of us end up bickering and tgibson is somewhere enjoying the bickering but refraining from further discussion. Hasn't anyone else noticed this trend yet?

this thread reminds me of a story that i got in a newsletter a few weeks back. it really applies to all of us, regardless of our profession, so i'm going to pass it on:

this is a time of year when many people become depressed over the state of their lives. some decide that living itself is just too difficult. the golden gate bridge is the world's leading suicide location. every two weeks, on average, someone ends their life here. at least twelve hundred people have been seen jumping or have been found in the water since the bridge opened in 1937, including roy raymond, the founder of victoria's secret, in 1993, and duane garrett, a democratic fund-raiser and a friend of al gore's, in 1995.

dr. jerome motto had a patient who jumped in the mid seventies. "i went to this guy's apartment afterward with the assistant medical examiner," he says. "the guy was in his thirties, lived alone, pretty bare apartment. he'd written a note and left it on his bureau. it said, 'i'm going to walk to the bridge. if one person smiles at me on the way, i will not jump.'"

wow - what a simple gift. how many people did he meet that day? what if i had been one of them? it doesn't take money to give some of the season's most precious gifts. be very aware of those around you especially during this time of year. give the gift of a smile - ten times each day.

As an ex-nurse - Nurses dont get badly paid!!!

Try finding another job, with your options limited due to chronic back pain. Only bonus is its a 9-5 Monday to Friday! No arguing over the Christmas off duty lol.

Just enjoy it while you can!

:)

Thanks for the posts regarding this persons negativity ... I just went back and looked at his posts and now realize that I was sucked into an argument that was meaningless. Yes, perhaps he is a troll, since I don't see him responding much to direct questions and comments. It's too bad ... there are so many posters like him out there ... and I actually get worked up about it! Oh well, live and learn.
