aspartame anyone?

  1. I was just wondering what your thoughts are on aspartame...

I have tried to do some research about it, some sites say:" It's been aproved by the FDA, It's perfectly safe, etc..."

Yet on the other hand, there are an equal number of sites that warn: " ASPARTAME KILLS"

    What's the deal here?

    Thanks!!!!

I am not sure whether it kills or not, but, my wife's cardiologist said that under no circumstances is she to eat anything that has aspartame in it.

    So we don't.

Aspartame gives me migraines. Also, my sons oncologist told us to never give it to him, so we don't partake of it at all.

I don't touch the stuff. If they can't make up their minds....best to err on the side of caution and not indulge.

Ask me in 20 years. I haven't had a problems with it - headaches and the like that I have heard reported. I don't doubt that some people may have sensitivity to it just as some do with many chemicals. don't do the saccharine, tho.

I think thats the one they told us in nutrition killed a bunch of labrats. But the dosagas were more than any human could ever eat. I'm not looking this up in the book but Its supposed to be safe. As far as myself I dont even worrie about it.

I don't eat the stuff because I think it tastes gross. Someone today told me that the reason you can't bake with it is because it turns to formaldehyde over a certain temperature.

Without turning this into a delirium reveals all thread, my neurologist told me not to ingest aspartame under any circumstances. Apparently it can further degrade neurological function.

It gives me headaches so I avoid the stuff and don't let my daughter have any. When I was in college, my organic chemistry instructor showed us the various stages of metabolism of aspartame. It goes through something like 20 stages and at one point is converted to formaldehyde.

When a co-worker was diagnosed with a brain tumor a few years ago, the first thing her nuero-surgeon told her was to stop drinking diet soda pop.

Has anyone tried Splenda? Some nurses at work use it and say it's great. They say it doesn't have an after-taste like artificial sweeteners and it is supposed to be made from sugar.

A dear coworker of mine was recently diagnosed with MS. Ditto what her docs told her.

I've read a lot about it through the years, same as all of you. Some articles for, most against. My personal philosophy is: the fewer unnecessary chemicals I put into my body, the easier it is for my liver. And , since there is a severe shortage of livers' , I want to keep mine as healthy as possible.

    Try splenda. Much nicer stuff.

Fortunately, I think it tastes disgusting, so not eating/drinking it is not a problem for me.

When I was pregnant w/my son 9 yrs ago, my doc told me not to ingest any aspartame, not even a stick of sugarless gum. He didn't trust the stuff. Just give me some plain ol' sugar.
