okay, so i am already in debt from obtaining my adn, $21,000.00 and then i decided to try this online bsn program, however so far it's already cost me 13,400 and i still have 2 semesters to go 13,000 more dollars.....should i just forget it and quit while i'm ahead???

No, a education is going to cost money. It needs to be done though. :) I think it would be more rewarding in the long run.

Are you working as nurse? Inquire with your employer to see if they do a tuition reimbursement. It may not cover all of your expenses, but it will help. Just be sure before you enter any agreement that you full understand the terms.

Only 1 more yr to go? Lucky you. I've got some debt from nursing school and a health care admin degree that I've just about finished. I need 2 more classes. This is private schooling so I understand the debt. Even with grants I'll still owe a bit. Like an above poster stated 'an education is going to cost but in the long run it's worth it'. Quitting now has you coming out with just debt. Might as well ride it out. In this economy it seems that going back to school is the smart thing so when things pick up, you'll be much more marketable.

I'd look at applying for every grant and scholarship that you can find. But don't apply to any that require you to put money up front. Look through your school or workplace first, then branch out.

Look at the salary you will be earning after you earn your degree. Will your school loans break you every month? If it were me, I'd finish out the year and keep going! Education is something that can never be taken away. Let my kids worry about the school loan after I'm gone (tee hee)

I going 60K in the hole for my accelerated BSN...

absolutely not. your education is important, and having a BSN will pay off in the long run. Plus there are a lot of places that will assist you with paying your loans back, as well as government agencies that if you work for them, they pay your loan. one that comes to mind at the moment is peace corps. check em out.

It just shocks the socks off of me that people spend so much for a nursing degree of any kind! State schools cost a LOT less and are give a good education, plus having a degree from one won't hinder your hiring. Have any of you who are paying so much considered switching to a state school?

wow! i really expected everyone to say drop out while you can! thanks, for the support. to whispera, you are correct, i should've went to a state school, but this online program potentially cuts my time in school in half, and i will potentially finish 1.5 years earlier, so i was hooked in. it makes me sick to think about the debt...........

I try to not see it as "debt" (even though it is) but rather as an investment in my future. My future earning potential and financial security will be much greater than it is now because of the degree (hopefully!), so I think it's worth it. But yeah, I hear you- the actual amounts kind of make you feel like you wanna :barf01:.

I'd say stick it out, since you've already come this far and it will pay off. Isn't there a new federal program that forgives your loans if you work in a healthcare environment serving in an underrepresented demographic area? I remember reading about it, but I can't remember if it's federal or state. Good luck!
