I'd say stick it out, since you've already come this far and it will pay off. Isn't there a new federal program that forgives your loans if you work in a healthcare environment serving in an underrepresented demographic area? I remember reading about it, but I can't remember if it's federal or state. Good luck!

I know working for the Indian Health Service pays back loans and I believe there are military situations that do as well in exchange for X number of years.

There is now a public loan forgiveness plan in place..... After 10 years of income contingent repayments AND working as a bedside nurse the feds will forgive the balance of your loans....

Have you tried to apply for any grant money?

If I were you, I'd finish. You've already spent many $$$ and if you stop now, the money will have been wasted. As an aside, however, having a BSN, at least around here, gets you no more money than an ADN or diploma. There is one place that pays BSNs more, but it is only 50 cents an hour.

have you tried to apply for any grant money?

no, but that's because of being negative and assuming i would never get any since i was turned down once. the guy who got it didn't even make it through the nursing program.....

It just shocks the socks off of me that people spend so much for a nursing degree of any kind! State schools cost a LOT less and are give a good education, plus having a degree from one won't hinder your hiring. Have any of you who are paying so much considered switching to a state school?

I agree, I'm all for state schools and community colleges.

I think that it's a possibility that many people who attend these private colleges may not want to spend the time waiting on wait lists, or their public colleges are just too competetive.

I was almost going to be in $40K in debt with a private university-- but it was not meant to be, and I did not pass one of the classes that first semester, and lucky for me, my name was up on the waiting list at the community college next door-- I graduated, became an RN and now I am doing my BSN online at a state school, that its not as expensive...
