A piece of Talking Furniture...

Ever been through this? You and your fellow nurses are busting tail, trying to take care of a gozillion people, your supervisor tells you: Yeah, yeah, I'm getting the numbers up for the big boss, so I can JUSTIFY having another nurse. The day of the big meeting comes...and, viola! Does the discussion ever get brought up? NO! Our supervisor sits there, like a piece of talking furniture, as the big boss berates the three of us...for not being MORE productive. Then, the big coup-de-gras comes, as big boss announces that we are going to have to work 7/7, until ALL the work is caught up! And what does our big supervisor say to that?: "well, I guess WE'll have to dig in".

Who's WE??

:( :( :(

Well, guess what? While's she digging IN, I'm digging OUT....ALL the way to another job! What a crock of s---!

You are SSSSO right. Rarely do I ever get mad enough that I cry, but I tied on a good one after I got off work this afternoon. The workload is horrendous, we've got people screaming at us from left and right, and all Management wants us to do is to shut up and "improve our numbers".

And if that, ladies and gentlemen, what nursing has come to, I'm getting into the birdhouse-making business with my sister and brother-in-law.

It is a sad state of affairs isn't it? One of the charge nurses I work with will literally sit at the desk while we run around like chickens with our heads cut off, and then tell us at 2:55 pm that we have to pick up another pt. at 3pm. All the while she makes frequent trips to her office where her gourmet coffee maker is to make more coffee for herself! What a bunch of BS!!!!! :( :(

Then she has the nerve to gripe to us about how busy she was all day trying to find staff to cover night shift! HA HA HA

Will it ever change!!! ~sigh~

I have just sent for all my college transcripts.

I am going to try and get a degree in SOMETHING else.

I am so disappointed and disillusioned by nursing.

I want out, too.

How about we all get together and open a combo bird house store/ice cream parlor down the street from Walmart?

I know............why don't all the good nurses onboard get together and open our own hospital offering shared stocks and annual bonuses to everyone who pulls together to run the hospital in an efficient, professionally friendly and professionally run fashion?

It's my dream of late to be able to run my own hospital. I guarantee it would be the BEST hospital EVER!

Any takers? :nurse:

I confronted my inaminate supervisor yesterday about the meeting. She told me that she, as well as big boss was under a "directive" to get the job done by the VP of the department, who apparently has decided that someone has died, and has appointed her Elizabeth Taylor. I told my supervisor that it was unconsciousable for her to expect two nurses to take care of as many people as we have to do. She agreed. What is really disturbing here, is the Corporate mentality of profits at ALL costs. They don't have a clue in hell of what we do, and they don't WANT to know...UNLESS someone with a high political connection complains....and then the phone calls, memos and inquiries begin.

This whole mess is making me PHYSICALLY sick...and although my supervisor didn't want to admit it, is making her sick, too (her diastolic b/p went up to 109 yesterday afternoon). I wanted to tell her she had better get out of this hellhole (I'm actively looking for another job)...before she winds up stroked out at her desk (another nurse did stroke out, two years ago).

My days of martyrdom are OVER. :(

After 10 + years of Nursing, taking the abuse, I ,too, have had it. I am currently at home on Worker's Comp, need my hip replaced and am losing everything I own due to starvation tactics by WC. I am looking for a new field and I like the birdhouse/icecream palor down from Wal-mart idea. Count me in on that one.
