"6 Feet Under" is over! Finally a real nurse on TV!

Nurses General Nursing

Anyone else depressed that 6 Feet Under is now over?

I never thought I'd get addicted to any TV show but I watched the final episode and it was a major downer for me.

What's wrong with me?

I'm 35 and moping around because a TV show has ended.

I must not have enough to worry about in real life anymore, huh?

I just thought it was nice to have real characters such as a real "nursing home" nurse with a real life instead of tv nurses always having to be in the drama of the ER, marrying or having an affair with some rich doctor, or on drugs.

It was also nice to see a gay male couple who wanted a stable home and children on TV instead of showing gay guys bopping around at nightclubs on X or crystal meth.

Any other "6 Feet Under" fans out there who are sad that it's over?

Yeah, I was sad. During the last 5 minutes I was crying like it was a death in the family. Now I feel a little silly but dang I loved that show. I'll definitely add the show to my DVD collection along with Sex and the City.

Yeah, I really liked it too, as did my husband. Are there episodes available on DVD yet? That is something we will have to have.

It was nice to be able to laugh at death. Some of the deaths that occured in the beginning of the show were actually funny as heck. We take death way too seriously in this country.

Boy do I miss it....already!!

The show approached death from a very practical point of view. I especially enjoyed the "pep" talks from the deceased.

Now if they would only end the Sopranos.

I watched the show faithfully since the first episode. Many of my friends didn't like it as much as I did and would just say "that show is too depressing and dark". I did think it was dark - but I could also see myself in each of the characters. It's about struggling to come into your own. What I loved about the final episode is that each character finally came into their own. In a way, I could relate to everyone in the episode in some small way. From my point of view - each character faced tremendous guilt and that is why the father Nate, or the brother Nate would come back and "harass" the character. It wasn't until each character was at peace with themselves that the departed would quit coming back. That was a powerful lesson to me - let go of the past guilt in anything with your life. It is then that you are truly set free. At least that is how the show spoke to me.

The final 5 minutes of the show were beautiful. I think it was extremely well written. I read a spoiler for the show that talked about how everyone dies in the end - and the ending truly surprised me. I was waiting for Rico to come back and set the house on fire. I had no idea that they would write the ending so well and it would be nothing like I originally thought it would be. I went back and watched the ending a few times (thanks to DVR!) and each time I marveled at how the show finished and didn't leave you wondering what happens with everyone. The ending definitely satisfied me! :)

I was depressed when Sex in the City ended, and now, I am finding myself sad that another great HBO show is over.

I rent 6 Feet Under from Netflix, so there must be DVD's available to buy. I love it, especially the family get togethers- someone always caves and lets a bomb of some kind drop. It's just like home, except for the formaldehyde.

I love this show. I thought that the finale was extremely well done. I also agree with the other op who said that the show really made you see yourself in the other characters. The inner conflict, selfishness and overall confusion really came across well from these characters; I found myself relating to many of them. :)

I especially loved the last episode when Ruth called Claire and was leaving a message on her v/m and Claire was standing there listening to her mom's world fall apart. Very powerful stuff!

Ok, I seriously hate you all ;)

But really... in the UK, we've not even been told its finishing... now I'm not even sure if we've seen the last series or not.

Grr.... I love 6 Feet Under!

I know the first four seasons are out on DVD and available for purchase (you're looking at $95 per season) on the HBO website.

I can't add too much to what everyone else has said here.

Just at the end there I was developing a serious dislike for Mr. Diaz and his family. I know that he was a hardworking ambitious person but the way he just didn't care about Nate's death. Well I guess that's why they killed him off at such a relatively young age on the cruise ship!

This show was absolutely amazing and will go down in history as one of the best television productions ever . The creators had a way of exploring real human conflicts which such depth and emotion yet kept it beautiful and fascinating with amazing filmography and engaging story lines.

This show will be sorely missed. R.I.P Six Feet Under. :o

You would know because the last episode ties up all the loose ends. No more hints, I promise! :)

SPOILER ALERT

Actually, I'm suprised that everyone lived into their 70's and 80's except Keith who had the only tragic death. Seems a shame no one else died in any type of interesting manner -- just old age. I thought it was fitting that Claire outlived them all (and was apparently well off in the end). Would like to have known about Billy though, outside of talking his sister to death -- literally

And couldn't we all have predicted that psycho Billy would end up talking Brenda to death! LOL. No surprise there.

I kept on Tivo-ing it back to see the dates and figure out how old everyone was when they died.

Something I missed the first time that I discovored watching it again:

Claire's wedding. One of Keith and David's sons was there holding hands with a guy. Can't figure out which son it was but apparantly one of them turned out to be gay as well.

Also, David's death was the hardest one for me to watch when right before he died he saw a young Keith playing football. So heartbreaking to watch.:sniff:
