U.S.A. Florida

Hello All Florida Nurses & Travelers

I want everyone to be Upfront & Honest With this One! Where is the Absolute WORST PLACE to work as an RN, Or as a Nurse in General In any part of Florida? I want to know of any places that I should avoid, such as Backbreaking work, Low Pay, Poor Staffing, anything considered Negative or Unsuitable. Also, High Liability too. I would much rather hear it straight from the horses mouth instead of finding out the hard way! All Honest Opinions & Personal Experiences will be Greatly Appreciated! If anyone wants to know about California, just ask. Please Respond. Thanks;)

Can someone clarify what the heck the problem is with nursing in Florida??? Our area here in SW PA is on a down turn right now too, but it is still relatively easy to get a new nursing job starting 22-26/hour. My family is relocating to Florida in a year at same time I will be graduating and I am wondering what the heck I am going to do moving to Florida. I thought being it was a big state for retirees that there would be a big demand for nursing down there. Is the state saturated with RN's?

I think the biggest problem is that a lot of hospitals are still not hiring . You still have many new Rns who graduated 1-2 years ago and still can't find a permanent job.

what about the memorial health care system?

yes they do kiss Pts butt. I know a couple of memorial nurses who gladly moved to the VA

Holy!!!!! Bradenton!!!!!! 6years experience in multiple specialties and i have been doing crappy prn work for 2 years! There is nothing! I wish i would have chosen a completely different career!!!!!!!

Worked for MMH twice, the WORST politics I have ever incountered! Gave up $40/hr I hated it so much. Of course had I realized the lack of work I would have stuck it out. They have to pay more to get people to work there!

There appears to be quite a few job postings that I've seen for experienced nurses in Orlando, the problem is that the new graduates can't find placement anywhere as someone mentioned. I'm a new grad and have had experiences in ORMC (orlando health) and at Florida Hospital. Both have their pros and cons as with any facility. The charting system at ORMC is simpler and easier, but generally not as comprehensive as Florida Hospital. Florida Hospitals charting system has too many dang ways to chart one thing, which makes you feel overwhelmed, lol. ORMC was kinda grungier looking facility, but all the staff I worked with were AWESOME. Its a teaching hospital so I worked with a lot of really informative nurses. Plus, if you're into trauma/ER/burn units then thats definitely the place you want to be.

Florida Hospital has really stepped up their game, with the new ginsberg (cardiac) tower downtown that is practically like a hotel. Low patient ratios, etc. I know a few nurses who transferred to cardiac and LOVE life once again, lol. The nurse patient ratios are reasonable at FH. Their new Disney Pavillion for pediatric patients is also gorgeous, and I've yet to hear any peds nurses complain. Outside of the unit, I feel like florida hospitals units are also more team oriented... such as running as "Team Florida Hospital" for a local charity 5K or something. Regardless of all the bullcrap (which you'll find anywhere) I personally love working for Florida Hospital.

Anyone working in Memorial Hospital,Daytona here?

Would like to hear comments about this hosp. too!

The problem in the Jacksonville area is that there are 2 community colleges and 2 universities that pump out new RNs all the time. Along with them, there are several private schools that offer LPN to RN programs.

I will avoid Miami Home Health care is collapsing, the corruption in the health system is crazy. Most Home Health are closing down. Hospitals are laying off personnel and sticking to RN's that have been there for long time. Low pay, hard work with MD's and Nurses, Cna's who are grumpy and very stressed at all times. The traffic sucks, you waste 2 hrs each way at least to get from point A to point B, hot as hell and to me it just looks like a 3rd world country.
