Miami Dade College (MDC) Fall 2012 Full-time/Part-time Nursing program

U.S.A. Florida

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to start a thread for people interested in the MDC nursing program for fall 2012. I think if you shared your scores (TEAS V & GPA) and what track your applying to (full-time or part-time), it will give everyone an idea of where they stand.

I will start:

I have a 3.7 GPA and an 81% on the TEAS and looking to apply for the part-time program. I have the option of taking the TEAS 2 more times which I will be doing :)

Cane,Well the program I'm actually in is the Baptist Scholars Program, so I while I was originally assigned there I don't attend Homestead Campus. However, from the folks who do go there, I've heard good things. I have been there a couple of times and it seems pretty nice and pretty modern. The nursing lab is supposed to be great.
Good to hear. I'm hoping the Baptist Scholars program is available this fall. The nursing rep told me they aren't sure, at this point, whether that program will be there this fall.

Hey guys, I'm in my second semester at MDC in the full-time generic and I just came by to give you guys some words of advice. Don't freak out! I know it's hard because you all wanna know really bad but MDC always makes us sweat it out.

School costs do get around the 2,000 range with tuition and everything. It really isn't that bad considering some of my friends who are at Barry paying like 13,000 for one semester. To those who get accepted, get your things done ASAP, as in the same day you find out, go get all your paperwork and physical and blood tests done. MDC does give you guys time to get it all in, so don't freak out. I would say though to go get the tithers done now even if you don't get in, if you plan to try to apply to spring you'll have them done. (Spring is a lot easier to get into btw guys).

Study as soon as you get your books and learn not to procrastinate, I cannot stress this enough. I procrastinate and it takes its toll, I promise you that. Become friends with past students and the ones who are in the program now. It's helpful, don't be afraid, we can give you a lot of tips. To add to that, get friendly with the people in your program ladies and gents, they're gonna be your family for the next year and a half! :)

Good luck to everyone, I wish you could all get in, get to know the older nursing students like me :D (I'll teach you the ropes! lol), STUDY, and get your things done ASAP.

GOOD LUCK FUTURE NURSING BABIES! :D

Thanks for the tips Coren!!! At which campus are you?

Good morning!! I was wondering if anyone's heard or read anything about new nursing grads not finding jobs. I keep reading that places aren't hiring inexperienced grads.

This thread is dead compared to the previous fall and spring threads...I've been searching past threads for cut off scores and I'm a little nervous, I applied to the full time transitional online course my gpa is 3.73 and TEAS 76 overall I got an 82.9 just hoping its good enough I always hear that fall is more competitive but I also heard the scores this semester were lower then the previous...not sure if that's true.

Hi, you are so right in relation to this thread being dead compared to previous postings.. Im in the same boat.. Checking my email every day (very often! Lol) waiting for that letter.. I applied for the generic part time program.. 4.0 GPA and 81.3 TEAS..i hope you're right and the scores are lower this year.. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

I think we're all just trying to stay busy with other stuff until we hear something. There's no new info to post at this point. Unfortunately, we still, probably, have another 2 weeks before we hear from MDC. I applied to all 3 programs (accel, generic FT and PT), with an 86.7 TEAS and 3.52 overall GPA. I've already done the background screening, and am signed up for CPR in June. All we can do now is wait.....and wait.... Lol

Great TEAS score!!

Hey Cane,

I spoke with a lady in the New Student Center. What she told me is that no background screenings done before someone gets their acceptance emails will be accepted. I asked what can I do before the acceptance, and she said only the CPR class. She is not the only person that has told me this. Another thing that she said is that no notifications will be sent out before the next 3 -4 weeks. Also, what shocked me the most is that none of the list( vaccines, drug, background) is needed before orientation. As long as you let them know that your in the process of completing them you can still go to orientation. They just need to be done by the start of classes. They also pick your classes. It started like that last spring. Only thing we choose is our clinical sites and that's it. Some of the info she gave me could be wrong, but she was getting the info from someone in the nursing department while I was speaking to her. You should call up there and double check on the background. Just wanted to let you know.

In a few days, I have a appointment with the director of advisement at the Medical campus. I got a whole list of questions ready for her. I 'll let you guys know in a few days what she said.

Yuck! They better take my background stuff...I paid $57 for it to be done because the link was already on their site. I know others have posted about doing it too. If they don't wan people doing it early they need to specify that lol. Let us know anything you find out. When I had called, they told me notifications at end of June as well, but that's what people have been told in previous years, and they ended up with notifications in mid-June. We shall see.....

I called today and they said mid-June...

I sent an email regarding the background check and whatnot and was told that the background check, drug tests, etc. need to be done after you receive your notification of acceptance into the program. Everything that needs to be done will be provided with the acceptance notification. I was also told that notices will begin to go out mid-June!!
