has anyone ever attended or know someone who has attended keiser college school of nursing? Looking for information on price and quality of education?

wow, thats sounds more doable for me then having to study 4 or 5 in 2 weeks, you really have to manage your time, and then at the same time we had Fundamentals of Nursing.

:twocents: IDk about students that actually made the decision to go to keiser college but I felt like I was being pressured into buying a new car when I requested information and was asked to come in for, what was supposed to be an informational meeting. I had no intention of applying to that school that day (for their nursing program) and by the time I was about to leave I had signed paperwork, given copies of my ssn card, driver's license and was considering giving them my cc number to pay the $200 app fee. I always like to get a night's sleep on things so I did. The next day I went back to the school (Jax,fl) and requested to have all of my personal information back. The gentleman REFUSED to give me back any of my information (went so far as to rip it out of my hands!!) and told me basically that I couldn't get in anywhere else so I should be thankful they MIGHT accept me. I was so infuriated...they had me take some twenty question test , which I excelled at HAHA probably everyone that can click a mouse can pass it. I think thats part of their ploy to get you in the door. It was like a hook and drag. The first guy was the hook and after he got me in the "financial advisor" would drag me in by getting my john hancock on all those forms for the loans I would need. I was quoted that a ASN degree would cost me around 30k even though I have completed all pre reqs for even a BSN!! And not to mention you pay the app fee, you take out all the loans, you have an interview and THEN they tell you (i think since i didn't get this far) maybe we can squeeze you into our fall 2015 (exaggerated a lil bit lol) class. O-yea and you must dress in business attire for all classes that aren't directly related to nursing and after some much sought after research by calling around to local hospitals the Keiser ASN degree is almost laughed at by human resources....I know this seems like a rant but seriously do a lot of research before you sign up for this "college" ; make sure you know what your doing and that you have exhausted all other resources. Hope this atleast gives you some things to think about and anothers perspective. by the way this was about two months ago and I'm now awaiting acceptance to FCCJ's program. ::keeping my fingers crossed::

Unfortunately, I think you are right. People should hear the good, bad, and ugly so they know what they are signing up for. To put it nicely, I havent heard much positive feedback about the school. We have Keiser students at my hospital and their reputation isnt so great from what Ive been told. Directors do tend to ask where you went to school, and if you happened to have graduated from a school with a bad reputation, it causes a lot of prejudgement. I would personally be beyond angry to be looked down upon after paying over 30k for a nursing degree.

I agree. 30K for an associate's degree from a "university" that is not accredited--- is not a very smart choice.

waitingonagu08,-- good luck into getting into FCCJ!!!!!

UPDATE THOUGHTS!

---- schools like Keiser, city college, ramudent---- just to name a few- have RN programs which help alleviate the student's waiting time to get into the state & community colleges.

Even if you have to pay alot of money out of pocket--- if you can afford it!-- the end result is your RN next to your name--- then you can choose to keep going if you want to.

actually they dont alleviate wait time...I was told I'd be on a waiting list and it could be a year later that I could attend and would have to take some classes while I waited. Which in turn would end up costing me more time and money.

It was one system per week. Sometimes two. For ex - we had cardiac, one week, test the following Monday. That day, start renal, test the following Mon. It wasnt bad. Some people had trouble, but I think thats the case anywhere.

Thanks. Im sure you'll be in the same boat soon :)

Danish, or anyone who has attended Keiser Career College St. Petersburg,FL for nursing...

Do you know if the college is accreditted? Is the accredidation provisional and what how does that affect your ability to bridge anywhere?

How did you feel about the quality of instruction?

Did you rely on student loans? If so, from what institution did you obtain loans?

Are you able to bridge to any RN program with your degree and LPN license when finished?

Thanks!

Seaside,

I'm not attending Keiser but thinking about it (not in your area though).

The FLBon lists St. Pete's program as provisionally accredited. It shouldn't affect your ability to bridge later. Of course if you know what bridge program you want to go to you can contact them and see if it will matter.

I too am curious about financing the tuition. I understand that most people get loans to attend but am hoping that a previous or current student can answer a question. I'm wondering if all the loan money goes to Keiser or if the student gets any overage for living expenses. I can't afford to go if I don't get a little bit in my hand to live on.

You will get a check if your loan money is over your payment balance. You can choose to keep it or send it back for credit towards your loan.

Melbourne campus is the ONLY Keiser RN program that has full accreditation. ALL other Keiser RN programs have provisional. Once the individual school successful graduates and has a certain number that pass the NCLEX, I don't know what the exact number is, they too will no longer have just provisional accreditation. ALL

We have Keiser students come to our hospital and I can tell you that most of them are better prepared than the community college students.

I teach all the students who come to my area (the cath lab) and go over A&P, medication and cardiac with them. The Keiser student in the past 2 years have been much better than the Community college student in being preparred to answer my questions, more attentive and more willing to learn.

This to me is a testament to the education that they are receiving. I don't think that Florida bright futures pays however for Keiser. But some Hospitals will contract with you to pay for your education if you hire on.
