FSCJ Fall 2012

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hey everyone!! I just wanted to start a new topic since it doesn't seem there are any discussions yet about anyone who is applying to the Nursing program for Fall 2012. I'm a little nervous right now b/c I will still be enrolled in Micro when I apply. Without Micro I will have a 189. I'm still going to apply (with my fingers crosse) in hoped I get in or even get a call from someone denying. If I end up with at least a B I'll have 201 total points. From what I've read a 201 should be guaranteed but then I'd have to wait until Spring. Fingers crossed a 189 w/o Micro will be enough for Fall! I'm so ready to start this program. Nervous & excited. Any tips/pointers would be greatly appreciated =)

when i turned mine in yesterday, the lady looked it over to make sure it was all there and i had nights/weekends marked as my 2nd choice since i prefer days and she said that they weren't offering nights again until spring 2013. not sure if you want to check on this...seems like each person in the office tells you something different. very annoying!

and yes, i definitely agree about the fast forward button![/quote

fscj is one of the school i thinking of applying too but its so far like 1 hour plus , however it seems to be the only one with a possible 6-10 schedule. concerning the times here is a copy of an email i got directly from c.j :

"students must attend during the times available. the program is not part-time nor full time.

1. class and clinical schedules will vary and students should not make work or other commitments until the semester begins and schedules have been finalized.

2. class instructors and clinical facilities are subject to change. listing an instructor's name or a clinical facility in no way obligates the college to provide said instructor or facility.

3. typically, daytime classes are offered during the daytime (8 am-6 pm). however, it may be necessary to schedule classes during the evening, e.g. 6 pm - 9 pm.

4. typically, evening/weekend classes are scheduled from 6 pm - 10 pm weeknights and clinicals from 7 am - 7 pm on weekends. but, it may be necessary to attend some scheduled activities such as course testing/special events and/or clinical site orientation during the day. orientation to clinical agencies is an agency requirement and may be scheduled daytime, nights, or weekends.

6. clinical experience requires students to be prepared which necessitates going to the hospital on the day before clinicals to obtain the assignments (applies to both day and evening/weekend students). clinical hours may vary due to holidays and students are expected to adjust their personal schedules accordingly.

7. sections with a small number of registered students are subject to cancellation. students so impacted will be reassigned to another section with the goal of achieving successful program objectives and meaningful student learning.

8. all student testing is scheduled during out of class time on mondays. all testing is on monday for day and weekend/evening students."

here is a copy of the email i received from cj:

hi ms. bishop,

the information given to you was correct. fall 2012 is a daytime program only. the next evening and weekend program will be spring 2013, summer 2013 and fall 2013. spring 2014 will be a daytime program only.

That is excellent info liamsmama thanks for that, now I see a flicker of hope..I gotta still try FSCJ then. So far I only found Daytona State College has an even program but its more like afternoon with times from 2pm - 11pm. Its just about impossible to keep a day job with that schedule. Spring applications will be between august and October plenty of time for me to get the NAT done.

@man-nurse2b,

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I really need N/W classes, but I still went and applied for the Fall 2012 program at FSCJ...I'm trying to see if maybe I can rearrange a few things and make it happen. I'm honestly just ready to get this started!! If I cannot make the day schedule work, then I will definitely be applying for Spring 2013. Isn't it fun having responsibilities plus trying to better your education?!? Haha, gotta love life

Good luck on your NAT!!

Good Morning fellow hopefuls for Fall 2012! I have completed pre-req, taken the NAT and have submitted my application for Fall! I wanted to do this 30 years ago, and didn't...its all about timing and mind-set; call me a late (very) bloomer...anyone else out there that might also be a late bloomer?

@pottersclay48 I am 38. Compared to most of the people I have met in my classes so far I would also consider myself a late bloomer! I have worked full time while completing my pre reqs and have 2 kids (5&14). I plan on working part time and doing days in the RN program (God willing!). Looking forward to starting some serious study groups if I get in! Let's all keep in touch. Anyone interested? Looking forward to working together to reach a common goal and make some life long friends too!

I'm sure you are not alone in those feelings :) Good luck with everything!!

"you should be golden!"..I sure hope so!! When will we hear?? I can't wait! :)

I will take day/night/weekends/Summer/Christmas and ANYTHING!!! :) I'm fortunate enough that I'm young and still living with my parents! :) So, I'm hoping that with 206 points and that flexibility, I can get in.

Anyone else from outside of Duval County applying? Does that have any impact? Do they only accept a certain number of in-county applicants?

I don't think they look at county...just your point total. I had 206 also! :)

Hey there fellow hopefuls!

I have also applied for the Fall 2012 program. I have a total of 186 (point something) points which isn't grand. I didn't do as well as I hoped I would on the NAT, my grades are 109/120. The cut off last semester was 194 (point something) and the lowest scored applicant seated was 190 (something). You have to remember that several applicants eventually decline seats due to several reasons from being unable to take day classes, changes in living situations, the upfront expenses related to starting (certifications, shots, etc). So I "Suppose" I have a slight chance, but I am not putting too much thought into it. -__-

For the comment above me, yes county does matter. Duval county residents are given first consideration. However I believe 25 seats are set aside each semester for out of county residents. You typically have to score much higher though to be accepted in. At 209, I think you will be fine though.. :)

Well, Good luck to you us all!!

*I am secretly waiting on my decision letter for JU scheduled to arrive by 6/15... Eeeek!*

Hello. Around how many guys make up a nursing class at fscj? I here its balancing out but all my sci classes were almost all women. Anyways, cant wait. Scored 216 points. I think that will be enough, wont know until i get that acceptance letter though. best of luck to everybody else (navy glam, i would spare some of my points and send them your way if i could ; ) )
