If so, what department, what was your starting pay, how was/is the orientation period, and how do you like the job in itself? Thanks! I look foward to working there when I graduate in 2010:)

1) it is a 6 month program, after that time, am i guaranteed a job?

for new grads the program is 12-16 weeks and as long as you pass all the tests, you will continue with your position on the unit you were hired on for the program

2) since it is only a 6 month program, i was wondering why people were mentioning that there is a 2 year commitment?

once the 12-16 week program is completed, you will owe them 24 months of work, if you break it you have to pay back whatever portion of the 13500 contract that you haven't worked off

3) what is the actual deal with the maybe owing 13,000 dollars if you go back on your commitment?

see above

4) would they help me pay to come down for an interview?

I am not sure about new grads, but I was offered relocation money to move down for the position I just accepted. I have 2 years experience though. With the relocation money you can use it to reimburse your money spent for the interview

5) do they help you get into contact with other new grads for help with housing, etc?

I doubt it, but I am originally from florida so if you have any questions about areas, I may be able to help

Good luck!

Okay, I just got back from Orlando, and while there I had 2 interviews, so this is what I know from FL Hospital training program for CCN-RN or CCN-GN (to work for Neuro/ICU/PCU/ or any ICU related positions such as Cardiac or Resp):

1) Successful passing score on a written EKG is a pre-requisite requirement, you will NOT be permitted to start the CCN-RN or CCN-GN program OR ANY PROGRAM ACTIVITIES such as Nursing Orientation, New Employee Experience, etc etc. They offer monthly EKG review classes. However, there are a lot of websites & programs that you can check on line or books like the ECG Interpretation from Incredible Easy (this one is pretty good). I recommend you to practice, practice & practice ECG strips!!! and you will be OKAY.

2) There are different requirements whether you are a GN or Experienced RN, 3) The length of the training program is 12-16 weeks for GNs, and 6-8 weeks for experienced RNs

4) This is why there is an Employment contract in exchange for receiving this training. I believe the agreement is for 24 month period after you successfully complete the program.

5)GN CONTRACT: $13,500; TRANSITION EXP NURSE: $7,500.00

Hope this helps,

JK

I received a call from FH back in March 2011 for the June/July start dates and was told that they would hold my application until mid April and would be calling me back for interviews. I followed up with them last week and they said my information had been sent out to all the campuses and they would be calling me....still have not heard from anyone. Does anyone know if they have completed all the interviews for new grads in the critical care areas?

Thanks!

thank you so much for answering all those questions!!

Hi all,

I applied for the gn program at florida hospital and i just received a message saying that they want to set up an interview! :yeah: I have not been able to get in contact with hr yet, but i have a few questions. I'm from out of state, would i have to fly out there for the interview or is a phone interview possible? Also, anyone has experience with the Winter Park campus? How is it?

What is it like living in/around Winter Park? I'm a bit apprehensive about moving down there if offered the position . I'm from ny and i feel it would be a major change of pace.

Any information is greatly appreciated, thanks!!!

The city of Winter Park if very nice. Upscale. I think you will pleasantly surprised. The W.P. campus is smaller than the main campus so you might like that. I don't know about a phone interview but make sure you communicate with HR. Good luck.

Winter Park is a good area.. Considered a pretty safe place to live and work. It is close to downtown too, about 10/15 minutes. I doubt a phone interview will be granted. I just flew down myself for an interview for the Orlando location. Good luck if you decide to pursue the opportunity! :)

So I am in my last semester of my ADN transition program and have applied to the GN program for ER and Critical Care with Florida South. I'm currently a full time paramedic with a local EMS agency as well. I know this doesn't mean much to anything when it comes to the whole nursing application process, but hopefully my application will get a second look.

I submitted my application 9 days ago and haven't heard anything back other than the automated response. I also emailed my school transcripts and got a thank you reply to that. I don't get pinned until August 4th so I'm not expecting much.

Anyone here apply to the GN program while still finishing school and get a quick (or any) response while still in school?

Thank you Preeps and Cab3f!

I will be having a phone interview with HR and if that goes well I will have to fly down there for interview the manager. I am so nervous/excited! Anyone else going for the PCU at winter park?

Cab3f did they say if they would help you pay for relocation? Help finding housing?

I will be working for the PCU in Downtown Orlando at the main campus. They offer up to 2,000 in relocation assisstance. You should get the first half during your first 2 pay periods. I believe the second half is offered at the end of the year. They will definitely give you information on housing and some pointers about which areas to stay out of. Good luck on the phone interview. Really do your research on the hospital before. It will help. I would read over this website: floridahospitalnursing.com

Its a quick phone interview. Nothing too stressful :). Good luck!

I am also caught up in the interview process with Fl Hosp. I went down for the experience RN career fair in May and had a successful interview with the HR person. I was to interview with the unit manager when the HR person noticed I had an ADN and said they couldn't hire ADN RN's at this time due to magnet stuff. I was devastated. I spent $$ to fly down for the interview and search for housing.

Then, I got a call for another position that I had applied for at FH. I had a telephone interview, which went well. I am scheduled for another interview. I'm anxious, as the cost of flying down TWICE is astronomical, especially when preparing to move as well! I know FH was offering substantial sign on and relocation bonuses for ICU Rn's but this particular position isn't in an ICU, so I don't know if there will be a bonus offered.

I also have an interview set up with ORMC.

Wishing everyone here luck with your interviews/start dates.

i am flying down tomorrow from maine for a float PCU interview at the orlando location! then i also have a second interview with the MPCU/PCU at the winter park location. hopefully all goes well.
