Hey guys! I know I'm a little early on this, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there who is either already in the program(s) or is also interested in applying for next year. The more I read about these programs, the more I excited I get! I have read so many good things about Vanderbilt from previous posts and I know this would be a great opportunity for me (and others!). I have so many questions I'm not even sure where to begin! I guess some of the main ones I have now are about the application process and what to expect.

For those who have already been through this process, what were the average GPAs/levels of experience/etc.? What do you think set you apart from the rest of the applicants? Is there anything I/we should be doing now to prepare for this?

For those who are also interested in applying for next year, are there any other questions you would like to add? Are you just as nervous/excited as I am?!

Feel free to join our convo! I'm super nervous/excited! I heard that Periop isn't the same residency? But I don't know and I'd hate to leave you out ESPECIALLY if it's the same or very similar.

My GPA sucks both cumulative and nursing. I've got 8 months experience as a tech/cna at a hospital and I volunteered (before nursing school) on our pediatric floor. My clinical instructors all said they gave me glowing recommendations. I'm also already prepping for NCLEX/ Exit HESI because I refuse to let tests stop me from getting to !

Thanks for the invite! I won't be graduating until May 2018 so I think I have to wait until their summer/fall 2018 applications come out, but I would love to join in and get an inside look for when it's time for me to apply!

I've read before that looks at everything, not just GPA! It seems like you've got well-rounded experience and those wonderful recs should really help too!

I have over 2 years of experience as Telemetry Tech so I hope that will help me at least get an interview for one of their cardiac units! Good luck to you!

Specializes in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery.

I'm not sure on what they accept but here is a mini-resume of myself and what I will apply with!

Track Applying For: L&D/Mother-Baby

GPA 3.21, graduating December 2017 with BSN

Experience:

-Duke PNA program summer 2017

-Student Nurse Associate (basically a CNA) at fort sanders regional for 1.5 years

-Clinicals at (idk if this counts really hahaha)

-Certified Labor Doula

I'm super nervous :o My GPA isn't the best, but one of my best friends just started her nurse residency a couple weeks ago (she graduated this past May) and she didn't really have any experience aside from clinical and her GPA was a 3.1! So that always re-assures me some!

Thank you so much!! This is really helpful! I've read that they look at everything so your experience and certification should stand out! Let me know how it goes!

Good Luck!!!

Hi -

I recently submitted my application for the Winter 2018 Cohort - I chose the Adult Acute Surgery Track. I was invited for an interview on 8/31. I am so excited and nervous! I have been reading up on Behavioral interview questions; and hope that will help me prepare. I will be flying down and spending a few days in Nashville.

Vanderbilt is definitely my first choice - My GPA is currently 3.6 but I don't have any medical experience prior to nursing school. I am in an accelerated program and prior to starting school, I worked at a residential treatment center for kids for 6 years - I am hoping that the experience and different situations I was in during that job will help during my interview.

I would love to hear about anyone else's experience with the application process!

That's awesome! Congrats on your interview! Vanderbilt is my first choice as well! Let us know how it goes! Good luck!!!

Did you apply for the Vanderbilt Perioperative Internship? I would love to hear from someone who has already been through the program and worked there for at least two years.

Specializes in PICU.

Hey everyone! For those that interviewed, how did it go? Any advice? I'm applying for the summer program. :)

Can anyone speak to the pay that these new grad positions receive?
