Shoes???

Hi I am new nurse and will be starting my job this Oct...At hopkins in Peds... Question is I am buying scrub, but not sure what shoes, 12 hour days I want to get something that people think really are the best shoes they have used. So any suggestions??? Greatly appreciated...

Z coils. They look funny, but they are heaven. I stand on my feet all day in the OR. Before I got them, my calfs, heels and feet would kill me. Not anymore!

I have read several articles on these. I had planned to purchase some, but after reading the articles I found they were just too unsafe for me. I have weak ankles, and have previously broken one without realizing it. The zcoils are a spring at the heel of the foot. It is supposed to be remarkable for those that suffer from leg and back pain due to walking long periods. I read in the articles that several people had broken their ankles with these shoes, and with my ankles being weak that's all it took for me to look into birkenstocks. I have been told by many that once 'broke in' they are the most comfortable shoes in the world. I haven't broken mine in yet, but will keep you posted.

Z coils aren't for everybody, but if you do buy a pair, your feet will never forget them!

How about Daskos's or any tennis shoes any one finds they really like? I ll look into the ones you have mentioned, where can you get them at??? Thanks for the replies

I get most of my good shoes off of Ebay. Much cheaper that way

I wear NewBalance 608's. I buy them two pair at the time and alternate. I have bone spurs and stress fractures on both feet and these are the only ones I've found that I can tolerate for 12 hours shifts. I'm scared to try anything else. Good luck in finding what's right for you. It took me about 8 years before I came upon these.

New Balance are the only tennis shoes that don't hurt my feet.

Danskos are cool too. I have a burgundy oiled pair that I wear "on special occasions." :p They are my dress shoes and I wear them shopping and to church. Clogs are in fashion so I think I look so KEWL! The kids in Sunday school love my Z Coils.

Ge the best shoes your budget can afford. It is well worth doing the research asking other who wear the shoes you are interested in and talking to a podiatrist to get the best results.

That's how I decided on Z Coils, Danskos and New Balance over Nike or Ecco.

I am young and used to have terrible back and leg pain. Not anymore.

The two I have found that are the best are New Balance and Rockport. Rockport are more expensive but they are wonderful.

Take it from an old nurse of many, many years. Wear whatever is going to be comfortable for you. Don't tolerate any shoes that hurt your little toesies while you are standing at work or you will be miserable. If you have very wide or very narrow feet get your shoes from an orthopedic shoestore. They will cost more, but the comfort is well worth it. Put an arch support in both shoes to avoid getting plantar fasciitis from standing on your feet for hours and hours day after day, especially if you are overweight. A company called Spenco makes them and they are sold at many different shoe stores or medical supply stores for about $25 a pair. Or, you can call a podiatrist and ask where you can obtain a pair. It would also be a good idea to get a good pair of Jobst support stockings and start wearing them when you are going to be standing to control the formation of varicosities. You can purchase them off the shelf at some medical supply stores or check out their web site. I'm not talking about the flimsy support hose that the commercial ladies stocking companies make. You will need a heavier duty support stocking. Jobst has a patented elastic material they use to make their products that applies more external pressure to your legs than some stocking from companies like L'Eggs or Hanes. Take care of your feet and legs because you are going to need them for your years in nursing.

I love my J. Rubio clogs - they have a funky spring in the heel and are so comfortable. They are much cheaper than Z-coils too. Used to get them from Europe, now they're here in USA - http://www.jrubio.us

I'm a male nurse, and I admit, I wear Nursemates. They're lite, comfortable and have a good fit. I got frustraited in nursing school with mens nursing shoes and wearing sneakers at my parttime job, and I decided the worst that could happen is someone asks me why my shoes have little blue hearts on them. Well, I have to wear my heart somewhere, so my shoes are it:lol2: I also recommend getting compression socks, your calves with thank you for them.
