  1. When people ask me that I say she is at Home Alone (Home Alone Kids Club-the name of her daycare). They look at me like I am out of my mind and I just smile and walk off.:roll

I can understand having a doctors note. For one thing it protects my license and for another; sometimes the parents don't accurately measure the dose so they really don't know how much to tell you to give the child. If the doctor has signed off on it then you know you are giving the correct dose. Jenn P.S. I have had the Dr. dosage differ from parent dosage in that the parent wanted the child to have more. I always go by what Dr. says to give.
  3. I was going to say that the story is fake. I saw it on a TV show about Urban legends. By the way, most vents have a backup battery and alert someone when it is shut off.
  4. I disagree with keeping the license at home. What if you come upon a car accident or something and need to verify that you are a nurse. Especially to prove that something you did was in your scope of practice.
  5. That should not be the only reason to have a child. It takes a lot of patience and love to be a parent and you have to be ready. I have seen too much child abuse from parents who had children that really should not have. Also if you have to question it then it is not a good idea. You will know when and if the time is right; and if you never have children then it was not meant to be. Hope this helps.
  6. I had a T-Shirt once that said: The Nurses day: A needle in the butt, a tube down a nose, some poopy in a pan, so our day goes. Don't know what ever happened to that T-Shirt but I loved the saying. It was typical.
  7. Recently I volunteered for the local disaster program. When I told them I was a nurse they did not ask if I was an RN of LPN. They were just glad to get a nurse. They needed people to do triage and to pass meds and they were not going to use lay people for that. In most situations it does not matter which license you have only that you are licensed. I think that RN's, in some cases, could not get along without LPN's. I worked in a hospital where the only RN on the floor was the charge nurse. She could not know anything about the patients that way. We are sometimes their eyes and ears. I may be an LPN but I am a nurse and PROUD OF IT!:)
  8. I suggest the cool mist vaporizor. I work for a Head Start program and we have a lot of children with asthma. When they have an attack in the winter time I have someone take the child outside while I get the medication ready. The cool air seems to open up their airway a little bit making it easier for them to breathe. JMO
  9. I am sorry this happened to you but something to consider is if the man had a stroke why didn't you find out if there was some dimentia caused by the stroke? Did you try to use shampoo to get the food out? Also sometimes you can take an old comb and comb through it to get the food out. Something people need to consider is when a person goes in the hospital the family feels that the patient has lost a lot anyway as far as pride and dignity (especially with those tiny hospital gowns). The family may have felt like that was one last peice of pride he still had left. I totally agree that the family should have been called before this was done. I would have been very upset if I had come in the room and my family members appearance had been changed without letting me know. JMO.
  10. First of all; why didn't anybody come looking for her sooner. That was 2 hours that she was in there, surely someone would have missed her before then. Also, I don't see where this could not have been neglect. She was not on the floor working for 2 hours. She also inconvenienced the other shift because everything was late. Also how could she give an accurate report on her patients? She did not know what was going on for 2 hours,IMO.
  11. I whole heartedly believe in using MS for comfort at the end of life. Both of my parents died of cancer. My dad had lung cancer and my mom had ovarian cancer. We had hospice come in and we gave them MS as often as possible. We did not wait for signs of discomfort. When someone is in pain and becomes restless from it it is very difficult to get them calmed down again; especially if they are dying anyway. Both of my parents were able to die peacefully because of this. I agree, however, that the wife should have been informed and been allowed to make the decision. The doctor should have also been contacted. He could have given a verbal order to give the MS routinely for comfort. On another note I had an uncle who was dying from cancer. He was not in the end stages where he had a lowered LOC but he was in a lot of pain. His wife refused to let them give him MS. He ended up committing suicide because he was in so much pain. Just my opinion.

This child is 4 years old. The pain is mild right now. He is not limping and it is not keeping him awake. Someone suggested Kawasaki disease but I have not heard much about that. The family is taking him to primary provider. There are not recent injuries and he has not been sick before this according to the family. Thanks for the comments. Jennifer :)

Hello, I am a nurse for a Head Start Program here in OK. I just had a child broght to my office with a fever of 102.8 and he also complained of leg pain and a sore throat. He has been complaining of leg pain for the past 2 days. The teachers and family just thought it was growing pains. The family said that he has not had any ticks on him. They asked me what I thought it could be and I told them I would research it for them. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be? I told them to see their physician but I am curious also incase this happens again. Thanks, Jennifer :)
  14. The two I have found that are the best are New Balance and Rockport. Rockport are more expensive but they are wonderful.
  15. When I was a teenager the doctor that did my mom's histerectomy was Dr. Rumph (pronounced Rump). :rotfl:
