I passed my boards on June 29th and I have my license. Granted I don't really have experience besides clinicals but I don't understand why I haven't even had one interview or at least a phone call! Everyone told me getting a job would be easy!! Now I have no money, my fiance and I just went and sold some DVD's but only got 20 bucks! And yes I said my fiance we are getting married in 50 days! And he isn't Mr. Moneybags good job just not a lot of pay. I really don't understand. I've called and checked up and I've got nothing. I've applied hospitals, community health, schools, physicians offices you name it I've pretty much applied. I don't know what to do I need a job ASAP. Any one have ANY advice?

Thanks

you are freaking me out, Michelle! (my name too, btw) i am waiting for my BON to give me a date to sit, and i don't even have my resume together at all, due to my fear/your reality. i pray we both find these so-called EASY jobs to find ASAP!!!!!!!

I didn't have a resume made before my exam I just figured I'd concentrate on the test. Which was good. But this job thing is getting ridiculous. I might have a chance at this one hospital they seem to be the only ones I have had communication with and it's a nurse recruiter. It's only a part time job but I don't care at this point, not to mention I will be taking time off right away for bridal shower wedding honeymoon. I did find one slight typo on my resume (GRR) I don't know how I missed it cause it was a real stupid one but maybe they'll have mercy on me! Where do you live? I'm in Michigan. Not so good economy but there are Nursing Jobs but they seem to only want ones with experience I've even applied for ones I'm not totally qualified for. Ugh this is so frustrating I think I'd almost want to take the NCLEX again at least I'd know my results in 48 hours!

im in chicago, where people claim the jobs are a flowin'. yet i know of at least 2 of my classmates already licensed still looking for decent work(nice facility, nice pay, etc.) ....btw congrats on your wedding, hope it turns out great!:balloons:

lol yeah it might have to be a "shotgun" wedding! :chuckle

Do other new grads usually find work without too much trouble? How many of your classmates have found positions? If it's hard overall for everybody, then it's going to be that much harder to set yourself apart as "THE" interview candidate.

However, if there are GN positions to be had, and your classmates are finding jobs, then perhaps you need to work on presentation skills...? Sometimes, even the few minutes you spend handing in your resume and application to the HR front-line person makes all the difference in where you fit on the pile. I made it a point to learn each HR secretary's name and USE it when speaking to her with a bright smile ;)

Well a lot of people that I was in school with had jobs as CNA's or some position in the hospital and got jobs through that route. Some people got jobs during their leadership rotation which I could have done but the management on that floor was not the greatest there was a big riff between the employees and the management that I didn't want to be a part of. I guess I need to be a little more pushy? Throw myself at people! Cling on their leg ??? I dunno.

Specializes in Emergency.

Have you talked to anyone at any particular facility beyond HR. This might be the first place to start. Often times the process is so slow that it takes a long time for your resume to even get to a hiring manager. For example if you have applied for a med/sur position find out that departements head and give her a call. Find out if she has even recieved your resume, if not offer to fax it directly to her.

I'm in the same boat as you...:o Here in MA, it seems hard to find a job around here. Though most of my classmates have jobs, and I was a CNA for almost 2 years at the hospital i was working at...but even that hospital didn't work out!!! Might have been because I quit after i graduated to have time to study for the boards....and the internal candidates had priority..:o I'm still trying to look though...but i hear ya....ITS SO FRUSTRATING!!! I need to start paying my loans back!!!

On a lighter note...congratulations on your wedding! :)

Keep calling them back and ask about the status of your application.

Good luck!

Male nurses or female?

Specializes in ICU/CCU, Peds, DD's, Hospice.

You poor thing!! I thought there was a nursing shortage?! It didn't hit me (poverty) till that 1-2 month period when I was done with school loans and applying for a job, then got the job, then you have to wait for the first check!! You 're so focused on getting through boards the income thing is like, whoa!!! I'll just share what worked for me IMEDIATELY (back in 1990, don't know how much has changed...) I started as an interim-permittee in the ER at a County General Hospital, instant bennies... a great starter salary, not to mention an oppertunity to lose my nursing virginity. Maybe ask a County Hospital if they have IP programs, where you get trained, function as a nurse until the lisence goes thru. Look into COUNTY postions. Good luck with everything

PS: make sure your future husband is kind, works hard and is not a !@$#. Its impossible to work as a nurse with a Man who is not pulling his weight at home or too neeeeeedy. I hope your sweety treats you like gold.
