Excelsior LPN to RN

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone is currently taking the Excelsior LPN to RN ... and how goes it??!!

I'm not sure of this program, but I thought I would bite the bullet & try to pass the 1st of the 7 exams required.

I am also wondering why it is that you do not have to enroll to take the 1st two exams - Health Safety & Transition? Are they easier than the 5 remaining exams, and is this their way of getting you to take the worm? Or, are they harder than the 5 remaining exams - which would "weed out" the serious from those who aren't?

Thank you!

The actual exams for grades are taken at a Pearson View site. Pretests are taken online and are timed but you can stop at any time. When you go back to the test it picks up where you left off so I would imagine the same scenario for internet connection loss.

I am in the Excelsior College nursing program which is mainly self study. I am having issues with preparing practice care plans with very little feedback. I test for my clinical exam on June 3 (4.5 hours away from home). I have been on a wait list for this slot for a year. I cannot go to this exam unprepared. If anyone is reading this that has gone through the program i would love your imput thanks!!

Have you been utilizing the faculty phone conferences? You should be setting up one a week to do until you test so that you can get immediate feedback from a faculty member. I did their provided free care plans and used different nandas each time, got lots of feedback. I also asked any questions I had from that week of studying.

ChrisRicci posted the link to Christy's care plan class which was phenomenal and well worth the extra cost.

Hi,

I'm thinking about Excelsior for my LPN to RN.

Anyone have any recent experience with them? Is it worth it to go there?

Are you a self motivated, independent learner? Are you presently working in a clinical role as an LPN? Can you maintain part time employment while doing independent study or taking online classes? Do your plan on ever working in CA?

Excelsior LPN to RN: Everytime I think, yeah, let's do this! I read somewhere someone saying, "NOOOO, Don't do it." I am confused....I wonder who is right??? Which side will I be on in a year... The Regretful side or the Conquering side....

Any new graduates from Excelsior LPN to RN living in PA? How did it all go for you and do you have your state license?

If you listen closely, you will here the same thing about community college XYZ if a student failed during his or her last semester. "Don't go there because they'll take all your money and then through you out right before graduation".

You simply must be motivated in order to succeed in Excelsior College. There is no one to make you study. You are given seven years to do the program. Some people take the whole seven; others take less.

I chose to not listen to the many negatives that I heard, and as a result, had my RN license in my hands 10 months after I took my first exam (08/09-06/10). Mind you, I was sitting in a community college classroom at the same time.

That college wouldn't even let me apply to its nursing program...forget applying and not being accepted. So, I applied, enrolled, attended, and graduated from EC (ASN and BSN).

The program will be what YOU make it, as an independent distance learner.

Thank you. You expressed my gut feeling exactly.

I live in CA, but I was planning to start this program with the intention of moving maybe in 2-3 years to NEVADA. So I am curious to start this LVN- to RN program even though I read if I do get RN license I won't be able to work but only Federal prison or VA hosp in CA, which is fine cause I really do not plan of staying in CA. Any suggestions or comments about this route?

I've read I think literally all the comments & threads on this topic. while many of them were several years old & some of the info may no longer be applicable, there was some very valid points. I think the most important one being that regardless of where you go, a fair amount of your success is based on your own efforts. I would be interested in anyone who has graduated recently (and even better if they live in the NE part of the country) to chime in on their experience. I've been working as an LPN for the last 2 years, and HS & college I have is more than 15 years old. I would need to do my prereq's through EC and don't want to waste money & time that I don't have as a single mom. thank you!
