Hi...I have a question...

I know the ER sees everything, but is it common to see a person that thinks they may have a DVT? Do you usually scan the leg in the ER or refer the pt to get one?

Fairly common...typically do an ultrasound of the leg in the ER.

A venous doppler study may be ordered if the presenting s/s are consistent with the presentation of a DVT.

yep we do the venous doppler studies too, we see a lot of r/o DVTs

We see many possible DVTs. We doppler them also, on the weekends, we call in the doppler tech.

We do Doppler's assuming the assessment warrants it. Just walking in and saying "I think I have a clot in my leg" doesn't necessarily mean you'll get a Doppler.
