I don't know for sure where to post this but someone please help me out... I'm in CNA school and am looking for a job. I want to work in the ER but I'm curious how much new techs will make. I know it will vary from place to place but please give me some ideas which units would be the best paying units and also how much can I make in the ER?> thanks!!!

My starting pay as an ED tech was $17.23 an hour with a $1.00 PM shift differential. That was years ago & I don't know what our techs get paid now. They don't have the same job description as I did. I would assume they make around $20.00-ish an hour.

LOL. You'd be lucky to get that as an RN here.

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

It varies...

When I started, I was making $10.77. I have gotten 2 raises since I have been here (just a little over a year) and now I am making $11.53 and that's without shift differential. The paper that I got stated I can go as high as $11.72, and again that is without shift differential.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

I started at about $15/hr in northern Virginia in 2005. Granted, I was also a paramedic with some experience, so that might have kicked it up a little -- I started as a "Patient Care Tech II" vs. a "PCT I."

Specializes in Pediatric emergency medicine.

Here in Portland where I work the tech pay range is 13.00-21.00 per hour. There is differential pay for evenings (1.25) and nights (2.25). With six years in I make 16.41 plus differential pay.

Specializes in ALF, Medical, ER.

South Carolina area and I make 10.50/hour. I also have 3 years exp and work days

here in NJ the average is between $13 and $17 an hours...some more some (sadly) less...but most of the ER's here require you to be an EMT with a min of 2 years experience...but it's a good job for all us future ER nurses out there :)

In the Washington, D.C. Area you can make from $10 - $28 depending on your experience. The most comes from working agency/freelancing . It's better to do cma to ert your pay will start out better due to better suited start skills.

Specializes in Pediatric emergency medicine.

Just started a new position here in So Cal pay is 14.50 plus 2.00 for night shift.

I started at $17+ and 90% of my shifts are on call and primarily on weekends which is time and a half + night and weekend differentials. I get the feeling this is not the norm however.

The nurses get kind of ****** about what the techs make but let it go when they are on their butts and I'm still busting mine 3 hours after the rush ended.

btw... I live in Northern California.

May I ask, what city & state this is in? I'm looking at higher pay for ED Techs around the US to work for several months to save up money to go back to school.

I live in Tuscaloosa, AL and our RNs fresh out of school start at $17/18 an hour. When I found out, I about fell out of my chair because that's LVN/LPN pay in south TX (where I use to live). RNs in south TX started out around $21-$23 an hour, and that to me is till pretty low.
