How much do techs make?

Published

I don't know for sure where to post this but someone please help me out... I'm in CNA school and am looking for a job. I want to work in the ER but I'm curious how much new techs will make. I know it will vary from place to place but please give me some ideas which units would be the best paying units and also how much can I make in the ER?> thanks!!!

Around here you are lucky if you get $10.00 an hour and that is a stretch... I love my techs and CNA's but they do not get paid near enough for the job they do..

8-10 an hour. Not enough for the work our techs do.

Ours start out at 8.44. Of course ER techs start out with more. I think for them it's 10 bucks an hour. Like someone before said not enough for what they do!

Patient Care Techs at my hospital make $10.85. Advanced Patient Care Techs make $11.92. I met a PCT who worked in the ED and he was able to do foleys, start IVs, and interrpret rhythm strips. He's held that position for five years, so I don't know how much he gets paid. He used to be an EMT and he's currently in school to be a PA.

It all depends on the area you live in and the shift that you work.

I work 2nd shift and make 11.80/hr and we also get two raises a year. One is cost of living and the other is a merit raise.

Ours start at about $11

I started at 14.50/hour but it really depends on where you live.

My starting pay as an ED tech was $17.23 an hour with a $1.00 PM shift differential. That was years ago & I don't know what our techs get paid now. They don't have the same job description as I did. I would assume they make around $20.00-ish an hour.

I started out at $13 two years ago and I am now at $17 hour. However the ED where I work is transitiong from CNA2s to EMTs, to be like the other area hospitals

Ouch! I currently live in Chicago..I am not sure how much they make here. However, when I was living in Cincinnati CNA's avg $9-10 while PCT started at least $12 but usually $13-$14 range (hospital figures). As a previous poster states ER pays more, and with 2nd and 3rd shift there was usually an increase of $1 more per hour, and a $2 increase for working weekend shifts. My aunt worked within a hospital network so that's where my info is coming from on Cinci. I would imagine Oncology and L&D would be great departments as well. Good luck to you!

When I was in Seattle, I was paid $14.77 as a tech :)
