  1. Hi studentinnursing! I am so sorry to hear about your troubles! Although I completely understand them. I also had to switch from nursing altogether to accounting for the same reason (moved away from family and therefore moneywise can't afford childcare). So I am doing a major I can do online then hoping to go back to nursing when my son is older. Anyways, to answer your question there are a few other online programs. I will post the links, check them all out (including excelsior) to see which works best for you. Don't pay much mind to what other people say about each program- because everyone is different as are their situations. You don't want to rush into anything and then regret it. So read about each one and call and see how they will work for you. Also start asking about preceptorship before you make your ultimate decision (as I here for many people this is the hardest part). So if you have one lined up you are really lucky!! Ok here they are: http://www.indstate.edu/degreelink/lpntobs/ http://www.rio.edu/academics/page.php?ID=schoolofnursing http://www.chamberlain.edu/admissions/undergraduate/Associate-Degree-in-Nursing-(ADN)/lpn-to-rn-bridge-program
  2. Oh thank goodness! LOL Coz your post was SO quick after mine I was like noooooooo I am not talking about Hondros! LOL Sorry. I have to say my FAV thing right now about Hondros is the uniforms. I like that they are never white (I cant keep white clean for more than two seconds LOL) and you get a choice of the style (straight leg, flair leg) and if you want to you can order scrub skirts (impt for me). In Chicago they could only be straight, white, and had to wear them all the time (Hondros on fridays can wear hondros shirt n jeans).
  3. Delila I think you misread me. I wasn't talking about Hondros nclex or cost etc. I was talking about the schools I was checking out in Chicago while I was there. I am moving back to Cinci to RETURN to Hondros.
  4. Hi Andrew! I am wondering if you are the Andrew from my class maybe. (I was only in for one quarter and planning to start back in April) I had a little problem with a skills test then couldnt go back for a while we moved to Chicago. But I am moving back to Cinci next week so I will be checking into it soon. Anyway, maybe you remember me :) Tracy only gal in the class with a head scarf. If you are the Andrew from my class I gotta say I am REALLY excited for you!!!! Well either way I am coz its awesome to know fellow Hondros ppl are doing well. I am upset I had to miss so much time. I was trying to get into a program while in Chicago but here they dont even do waiting list (usually limited to 30-40 top GPA students out of a pool of 100 or so) and have a lot of pre-reqs. Gotta love cinci, there we have hondros and galen without pre-reqs then at least butler tech and brown mackie no wait list and a few pre-reqs. I mean that we have more options its really hard in Chicago. I was considering only Americare or Northwestern but still wasn't impressed with the nlcex pass rates or cost.
  5. NewRNMI I was just wondering if you have received any word from your supervisor? I'm rooting for you! Also have you thought anymore about switching to a hospital position?
  6. I don't think you are alone in this feeling. It can be scary. My first set of clinicals was scary and I was doubting my nursing capabilities and whether or not I liked it. But you should realize that nursing has such a broad spectrum. You won't like every part of it, and def not every department. But most professions you won't like everything about your job. You mentioned you like the newborns, so that is probably your niche and you will make a great nurse there! Or perhaps you would like working in L&D or pediatrics office. I think you should take some time to shadow nurses in def departments, volunteer or take a leap of faith and get a job in nursing. If all else fails and its not for you, start shadowing other careers like Med Techs, Rad Techs, Pharmacists. But don't consider switching until you give nursing a try. And don't commit to the new education until you shadowed your new choice.
  7. Speaking from experience, DO as much as you can now. I am a mom, of a five year old, got pregnant my senior year of HS. I thought it would be best to only go PT, then after he was born I went PT a little while, couldn't stand missing so much of his time being a baby (it goes FAST) so I stopped. Though I would go back when he was 2, waited. 3, no waited. You get attached, you can't bear to part. Especially when you find out he rolled over the first time and you missed it. You missed his first crawl, he started walking, first words. All of it makes you want to wait wait wait. (Not that waiting is bad, but it is if you know you had the option to finish, bills are piling and you are torn between your child school and work). Like I said he is 5 and now he needs a lot of medical attention that I cant provide because I only make $9/hr. I talking about speech therapy, learning diabilities, etc. Things you would never think about when pregnant. Now if you have support to care for you and your son in the meantime, husband family etc and income is ok, then yea you can wait. Just be satisfied with the idea that you might not return to school until your child is a 1st grader. This isn't meant to be a beat down, I sincerely wish you the best. I want you to make the right decision for you and your baby. I wanted to you see as much perspective as you can. Best wishes! Edit: ignore that i keep saying he and son, just habit!
  8. This you will need to check with your health care provider. When I had mine done my school provided a form listing each titer individually and my provider had to sign off of each one that the test was done and the results. When you schedule your appointment you would have to tell them every shot and titer you need. Oddly the Hep was the only one you mentioned that my school didn't require, it was optional. However, if you have had these shots done before and were up to date on them, then maybe your provided saw in your records and you didn't need except the Hep? I had all the other titers done and ended up need tetorifice and varicella shots, all of the cost about $600 so perhaps that can give you a rough estimate of what you had done. I mean if your total was just like $50 then you probably only had one thing done.
  9. If it was a controlled substance then yea, I can see the big no no here. I don't think you need to worry about losing your license though. I have seen disciplinary actions for much worse and the persons were able to keep their license and keep practicing. I honestly can't tell you as far a your job is concerned. I don't want to give false reassurances but at the same time I can see that in the end it was an honest mistake and I am sure your supervisor does too. I don't know if the DEA does compliance checks at your hospital pharmacy, but more than likely that is where the concern lies and why they had the new policy. I used to work for a pharmaceutical wholesaler and the DEA is constantly working to suppress diversion of controls, especially C2s. You weren't diverting it if it was ordered for the patient and you gave it to the patient, but it I guess without pharmacist approval they are just concerned about the potential diversion.
  10. I second extended care idea! Or I am not sure how hard it would to be to do this as a sort of new grad, but you could be adventurous and try travel nursing taking positions in different areas to see what you like. Or try shadowing a day without pay for the same reason...both I know in some areas might be hard to get. I feel you on the home health thing, I worked for maybe a month for a home health agency on the office side of things, my job was to "audit" the patient charts. Eeek I didn't like it. Looking back I am wondering if it was even legal HIPPA wise, I was fresh outta high school no certificates or anything.
  11. Glad I read this, I needed a giggle! Thanks guys n gals! LOLLLLL the Q word!!!!
  12. Ouch! I currently live in Chicago..I am not sure how much they make here. However, when I was living in Cincinnati CNA's avg $9-10 while PCT started at least $12 but usually $13-$14 range (hospital figures). As a previous poster states ER pays more, and with 2nd and 3rd shift there was usually an increase of $1 more per hour, and a $2 increase for working weekend shifts. My aunt worked within a hospital network so that's where my info is coming from on Cinci. I would imagine Oncology and L&D would be great departments as well. Good luck to you!
  13. Congratulations! I hope everything is going smoothly! And I am so proud of you that you are also going to be working on your BSN while working on your RN that is so smart! I wish you the best of luck :)
  14. RN2064 I just want to say congrats on becoming an RN! I am considering ITT tech because it is near to my home. I live in Chicago and driving in the winter is a pain. I am going to attend the information session on 1/25/11 im nervous but we'll see.
  15. Hi, I am looking for CNA classes now as well and I just found this. It is from the IDPH website, a list of all Approved CNA training programs in IL. (unfortunately it doesn't say how much they are, but it tells you where they are and phone number). Good luck! Untitled Page
