Finally able to tell my son "yes"

So my very proud 4 year old who knows his alphabet has been watching me the last several months with various books. He looked at my book cover and said, "I know what you are reading! CEN"

I explained to him what it was and why I was doing it. He made me read some of it to him then decided his action figures were more interesting.

After that, every week or two he'd come up to me and say, "Do you have your CEN yet mom?"

It was sweet that he remembered.

It was even sweeter to tell him yesterday, "mommy got her CEN." He ran up and gave me a big hug and gave me the best smile.

My heart melted. :cry:

I couldn't agree more!

We really are the role models for our children in so many ways... including studying and achieving a goal. While the child is very happy when we've achieved a goal, what happens to them is even more amazing. They see what happens when we do the hard work, study, and apply ourselves. They see that we reach our goal... and that sets up a desire in them to do the same because that's what we do. If we show our children that remaining where we are because we're comfortable teaches them that it's OK to get complacent and find a comfy spot and stay there... that stagnation is preferable.

Yes, even when we don't realize it, our kids are always watching and listening and learning from us. You are setting your son up to learn great values - hard work and perisistence.

When I had my second child, I developed serious cardiac issues and at the time didn't know what my future would hold. My son, who was elementary aged at the time naturally heard all of us adults talking about it and of course, I had explained to him why mommy had had to go back to stay in the hospital after his sibling was born (in a way appropriate for his age).

One day while jumping on the trampoline, he stopped and said, "Mommy, I will give you my heart so you'll feel better."

I had to walk away I was so emotional. It nearly ripped my heart out. The innocence and giving nature of children is one of the best, most miraculous parts of life.

Gives me some motivation to put in the effort for myself. May prove helpful one day.

You should be very proud of yourself, and your son. It is great for kids to see their parents work hard to achieve a goal, and heartwarming that your son is so interested in your pursuits. Good for you! Many blessings to you and your family.
