Studying for CCRN. Argh!

Wow. I'm overwhelmed. There is sooo much. It doesn't help that I work in a rather low tech ICU...no open hearts, no balloon pumps, only diagnostic cardiac caths, rarely a Swan-Ganz.

I've always been a straight-A, 4.0 student. That's what I'm used to. I get A's.

Well....I've been taking the practice CCRN test on disk as well as other critical care related "quizzes" on CD. ACK! 74% to 86% have been my ranges. I've NEVER scored so low on anything in my life!! I'm really getting depressed!

I'm taking a two-day CCRN review course this week. I'm really counting on it to help gear me up and get me going in the right direction.

Does anyone know what % is required to pass the CCRN? My goal is to take it in June so I've got time to prepare (I think!!)

Good luck Zee. You'll probably do great!

OK, I've scheduled my exam date. In June. I have 7 "study" days available. There is so much info; I can't say I'm terribly optimistic and that's not like me. I figure, hey, if I take it and fail it, at least I'll know what to look for when I retake it.

I've done a two-day review course, perused the PASS CCRN book by Robin Dennison and listened to the Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio CCRN Cram tapes a bunch of times. Taken numerous quizzes. Looks like I'm scoring about 80 to 84% in general. Since I'm used to getting straight As, this is demoralizing--but hopefully it's enough to pass!

Prayers are still being accepted!! Thanks!!

Zee, that test was the single hardest exam I've ever taken, and that includes my CCNS! Now I'm actually teaching the cardiovascular content in a CCRN course for my hospital system. PM me and I'll share some of my stuff. Good luck! Nursemouse

Zee,

I took and passed the CCRN exam this month. It was very hard!Have a very strong grasp of hemodynamics and you'll be fine.

Well - I tried to kind a picture of a cheerleader to post for you, but a google search for that revelaed more than I wanted to see lol.

So I'll just say

Goooooooooooooooooooo ZEE!

Zee,

Good luck and a little tip-

read the question and BEFORE you read the answers, stop and think what your answer would be- then read the answers and pick the one closest to the one you've already thought of. This has gotten me through nursing school, NCLEX, CCRN and others..

(of course if you have no clue, use your patho skills and reason it out).

Thanks, jnette! :chuckle

My advice is to remember your tried and true test taking strategies. If you have been working in critical care awhile, challenged your knowledge base, and have learned how to think well and prioritize, you will likely do fine. I listened to the Vonfrolio tapes once, took her advice 'You know something, you'll figure the rest out' and did well. :)
