LPN's in Connecticut

U.S.A. Connecticut

Published

Hello,

I have a question about being a LPN in CT. I am a male getting ready for LPN school. I am also a CNA. After school I want to move back to CT were I grew up. I want to work in LTC. What are the starting pay rates for LPN's in CT in LTC? How much overtime can you work? I want to be able to work at least 60 hours a week or more if possible. Can you get a lot of OT in LTC, in CT if you want it? My wife is also going to LPN school and we both want to work in LTC when we graduate. Are LTC homes hiring in the northeatern part of CT (Hartford, Manchester, Windam, etc)? Is there any LPN to RN bridge programs in CT? If anyone could provide in information or advise I would be very grateful?

Regards,

Starting is minimum $21/hr up to $25-30/hr or more w/ an agency. Most LTC use pool and and agency because nurses are limited here in CT. They don't like pool/agency because of the high$$$$$ for them. So, now pay is getting better and they tend to stay away from as much agency as they can. Overtime & per diem is plentiful!

Specializes in none.

Just to let you know! I also tried Netti in New Britain. I had negative experience in 2000. The teachers were really strict but more than any other nursing program, I think you should look at some more options. Their nursing program is not cheap either. So many people were disgusted about the way they handle things. I felt like I didn't kiss up to any of the teachers there. Well after all that drama I quit the program and went to college for the Rn. program. I should have done that from the beginning. I graduated in May of 2006. Sometimes taking shorts can hurt. So think of what to do and try to get some feed back from people who are currently at Netti. Good Luck.

Someone told me New England Tech is not $30,000 for the LPN program. I was thinking about going there, but I ended going to St Vincents college instead. I think it is about the same price, since I had already have most of my prereqs. Think deep before you leap!!!

When I left them, the next evening class wa sbeing sighed on at about $28000.

NETI is up to $30,000 not including books, uniforms, stethoscope, etc. I registered for the Jan 07 class but I thought about the cost and withdrew. I will just take my chances on getting into the state program starting in January, if I don't get in, I'm going the RN route.

A friend of mine actually got a few job offers from some really great LTC facilities in that area through Maxim Healthcare....you should definitely check it out

Tia,

Check out the State of CT LPN programs that are probably MUCH cheaper than New England Tech. Here is their website:

I'm a graduate of the Vinal Tech - Middletown part time evening program...you can private message me if you like if you have any questions about it.

I was interested in starting the Vinal Tech evening classes however I am attending CCSU to get a BA in Biology at the same time. Is the LPN program at Vinal Tech manageable while being a full time student at a University. What is the total costs and how is the entrance exam? Is the entrance exam in need of studying? How well do they prepare you for the actual exam to get licenced? I have a lot of questions pertaining to this! Please help!!!!:icon_roll

Hey Undergrad,

If you're getting your undergrad in bio then you should really consider skipping the LPN and going straight for one of the BSN or ASN programs.

Specializes in A little of this & a little of that.

There are plenty of jobs for LPN's in Northeast CT. The pay all over CT is good but the cost of living is also high.

CT has a bridge program through the Community College system for CT LPN grads. I think they do accept others on a limited basis.

Those of you who have (or almost have) a Bachelor's should look at the MSN programs. Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac accept non-nurses into the MSN program. You start in an accelerated RN program because you have to be an RN to start clinicals. You graduate in less than 3 years as a Nurse Practitioner. The cost is fairly reasonable, less than UConn's MSN which does require RN first. With Sacred Heart a lot of courses are even online. I'm finishing my BS (non-nursing) and going that route. They also have just the accelerated RN program for those who don't want to get a MSN but already have a BA or BS.
