Just Quit.... Need advice :/

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I started at a LTC (you may have seen some of my other posts) and it was not a good first CNA exerience at all!! The management was completely unsupportive, I didn't feel I had proper training and the work environment was not good.. I would go home feeling so overwhelmed that I decided it wasn't worth it when I dreaded going into work every day and it just wasn't a good fit for me.

Luckily I had my previous job to fall back on (not in the nursing field) so I was able to quit.

NOW I don't know where to go from here...:confused: Do you think trying a different LTC would be worth it if it is a better environment? Or should I hold out for a hospital position and try some of the connections I have to get into a hospital?? I want the experience as a CNA but I really didn't feel this LTC was for me..

Is there any way that my next employers can find out that I only worked there for a month if I don't put it on my resume?? I just want to start fresh looking for a new CNA job..

Anyone been in the same situation?? What did you do after??

I don't want to give up but I am just feeling so overwhelmed!:chair:

Personally I hated working in LTC and have worked in three different nursing homes. I think that if I were you I would try getting a job at the hospital but maybe you could just go on call to see if you like it. I have never worked in a hospital as an aide so I cannot help you with that. You might also try home care because of the slower pace and you get to know your residents better.

I had quit my job at an LTC because I couldn't stand the environment and the staff were extremely rude and unprofessional. But before I left, I got lucky and found employment at a nearby hospital. I hope things work out the best for you!

I went through something similar when I first became a CNA. I worked at a nursing home for a week.. yup, a whole week. I wasn't even off orientation, although no one was even training me, they just left me alone throughout all of the shifts. It just wasn't for me.. I went home crying after every shift.

Anyway, about a week later after I quit, an assisted living facility called me (I had applied there a month earlier) and I went in for an interview, and I'm still working there over 2 1/2 years later. Although we still have some residents who need complete care, I would say for the most part it's a little more laid back than working in a nursing home.

I hope you find a new job soon!

Don't be surprised to find that most nursing homes are going to be to some degree nearly the same as your first experience. That is why many people complain about working in these places.

I would hold out for the hospital, thats what I did.

I too quit the LTC after ..1 day..

Wow thank you all of you it makes me feel so much better to know that other people have gone through the same thing i am experiencing. I don't want to give up on being a CNA so I will take your guys advice and try assisted living maybe or just push for a hospital position and HOPEFULLY that will pull through.

I'm was taking a CNA class in New York (because my daughters live here) I live in Florida. This is the worst experience, our teacher is NOT supportive she's horrible and told me the other day I was taking too long holding up the class. (We were doing skills) instead of her verbally helping she's abusive. I understand we need to go at a fast pace, this teacher "GIVE ORDERS" It's like Boot camp! How can the school let a person work here? I will never go back, the bad thing is I think I will have to pay the school for the rest of the (2) weeks of money owed. I don't know. Are the teachers in other areas as nasty as this?? I will try a different school in Florida, but first research it better.

I had a instructor that was military but for the most part she was nice she had a real passion for patients she would get on us if we took too long on skills because she wanted to make sure we all passed the boards. She told us in a real setting the nurse would appreciate a cna taking their time with the patients but for the boards you need to speed it up go go go

I've started working in a hospital and it is HARD. I managed to look very silly today, did everything from vitals to butt wiping wrong and I am a 3rd semester RN student. Overwhelmed is barely adequate to describe it. And this is with a very supportive team (kind of makes me feel worse because they're so nice about it).

Sadly, yes :eek:. I'd been doing pretty well but just couldn't get it in gear yesterday. Totally embarrassing but I should improve with practice and I've identified some areas to work on.
