Don't feel awful. I probably wouldn't have passed without the packet either! They are quite picky on the steps, how they are done, and the order they want them done it.

You have the packet now. Memorize the steps. Practice them in order. You'll pass next time, for sure. No worries!!!

You will do fine on the next try I'm sure. You already know what to do and have the step by step guide. The same is true of the nursing skills lab -- do each skill step by step as presented in your handouts or whatever. Your mother is right; once you're in the "real world" you will find that there are many ways to do things. The key is to follow the rationale behind the steps you were taught (i.e. to maintain as sterile a field as possible,to prevent undue exposure of the patient, to prevent undue heat loss, etc). Don't get overly fixated on exact steps of a procedure (for ex. taking a B/P - if I took them the way I was taught, that's all I would accomplish in a shift LOL)

That is so CRAZY and non real world. You have the right attitude, arm yourself with the knowledge of what they want you to perform and do it, no matter how crazy. Life is a succession of Do-Overs. Just do it and carry on with your studies. School is a performance of how well you "jump through the hoops". Don't question it, simply jump and you'll graduate in no time.

Wish you well and success.

In nursing school you will find that not everything is done exactly by the book, but when it comes to exams it’s a perfect world and the pt does exactly what you need; so it is always by the book.

I almost failed my CNA exam too. I got range of motion. Live demonstrations scare the crap out of me. Honestly I’m really good with out an audience. On top of that I had to bring my mom with me to demonstrate on, God love her she was the only one who would come with me. She realized how freaked I was and just gave me a mom look that made it so much worse. When I was done the proctor made me sit down and talk to her, she said it was an awful demonstration, she though that I had the capability of doing better, but she would pass me against her better judgment. I left feeling so defeated; I almost wished she had failed me. Now almost 5 years later I have done very well, and I just finished nursing school. Now I can look back and laugh. You’ll do great the next time; these experiences can only make us better.

Do not worry because you did not have the packet for the first test. I am sure you will pass the second time.

Hang in there---I'm sure you'll do well next time around.

Yup. I'd have failed that too. Study your packet and you should pass, but seriously, without it, with that much pickiness, you probably didn't stand a chance. You'll do great this time! :)

I failed the skills portion on my first try, but passed the second time. I messed up on vital signs because I was nervous and rushed. Now that you have the skills booklet, you know exactly what they expect and you won't be as nervous taking it a second time since you have done it before.

You have got to listen to your mom because she is the best person to give you the support you needed. She went through you process already and she can relate more on professional level with you and on personal level as well.Do exactly what she said and i wish you goodluck.Don't try to be your mom but yourself and the best you can be!((((hugs))))

I believe you were just too nervous:eek:....you can do it...especially since you have the review. I passed on my first try ...but I also had the review that they use to grade you by...you'll knock it out the park the next time with no problem.:yeah: Just relax and proceed as if the board examiner is not there.
