I have recently applied for a position with Humana. I have read a lot of negative comments on glass door from previous employees, but not much information on RNs that work for Humana. Can anyone give any insight?

Thanks so much,

Cindy

Please PM me through here. I would like to talk with you. Thanks

:( see below... i joined the discussion today just so i could talk to someone (anyone!) who cares. is there another way?

Well, I understand... but from reading your note it is not surprising to me. I worked for the for over 2 yrs and so glad I am not there anymore. I have my life back....

I have recently been hired by a private company as a care manager for Humana. I will be paid on a flat rate basis when I see the clients in person each week. Just wondering if others are working at flat rate and how they like the position, is this job is manageable? This could be good and bad I guess. The job is flexible and I am permitted to agree on how many clients I want. So I will not have a large case load. Thanks

My best advice for you is to get something in writing from your employer. Think about what's fair to you and realize that you will be doing a lot more than just visiting people. I was in the position for almost a year and I was paid hourly. I did not bill for all my time because I chose to take a lot of time for my clients, but at least reimbursement based on time allowed me to be paid for some travel time, coordination of care (there is A LOT of phone time involved with being a CM if you're doing it right; some but not all of which can be done during visits), and of course time in Rosalind which isn't a lot once you get past time Member Survey. How is your mileage being reimbursed? Are they paying you for the training time? They ABSOLUTELY SHOULD BE and there is continuing Humana training so MAKE SURE you straighten that out. What your agency probably hasn't explained to you and might not even understand themselves is their own reimbursement from Humana. It's possible that the contracts vary somewhat, but here is what it was for my agency:

$110 per signed Member Survey (if you're doing it from scratch it's no less than 4 hours worth of work all included)

$40 for "coordination of care" (made 3 attempts to contact the client, etc etc or a single visit in a month)

$375 for 2-4 member visits in a month. Reimbursement is the same whether you see a member two times versus 4 times in a month. Some members need weekly visits more than others; most of the folks I saw did not need weekly visits; especially the Long-Term people who you could theoretically be visiting for 2+ years.

If your employer is not being straight forward with you about the Humana contract then that is a red flag. They see you as a source of revenue and they will squeeze you and use you. When I was hired my boss understood what I needed to make in order to pay my bills and finally I realized that they did not give a crap about what I needed to pay my bills. We had a verbal agreement and when I brought it up a few weeks ago my boss stated that she didn't remember any such conversation. I am severely in debt having made less than half of what I was hoping to make. I just quit. It's guaranteed to be an unstable income unless you be assertive and get things straight and in writing. It's a gamble and your employer knows it and is using you to absorb the risk. Be careful!

Thanks for your input of your experience. I will definitely consider negotiating more $ before clients are assigned to me !

I am in the process of signing on directly with Humana for a contract RN Care Manager position. Would love input from other contract Care Managers. I talked to a couple of staffing agencies but when I contacted Humana directly I found out they offered double per client per month. I'm hoping to only pick up a few clients a month. Wondering about job satisfaction the contract route.

I have just been offered a position with Humana as a CM, independent contractor. I have to complete all the training at home on the computer by myself. I am worried that there is so much material to cover! I dont want to forget a step or make a mistake when I begin working. Please anyone that has any insight and can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Feeling overwhelmed!

I had heard it is 70-80% cases reached per month. It is achievable.

Umm..I couldn't have dreamed up a better job than what Humana has offered me as a care manager. I love the company and love my job. Of course there's metrics to meet, that's how anywhere is. It is a company after all, and a very successful one. I joined awhile back and have no regrets.

Hi Everyone! I received an email from Humana at home thanking me for showing interest as an Independent Care Manager. They also sent me files to read. I'm just thinking if this will be the right job for me. How's the training? Like do you have to travel to attend? I don't know if this is a work at home position or maybe combined? I'm a single mom so flexibility in the schedule will be great! Would really appreciate any inputs regarding this position and how it works. By the way I live in Central Ca.

Hello. I had a Web interview 2 days ago for the Humana cares manager position. I was curious how long it takes to hear back. I have 2 friends who both work for humana and they received offer within 2 hours. Thanks for any feedback!
