I have recently applied for a position with Humana. I have read a lot of negative comments on glass door from previous employees, but not much information on RNs that work for Humana. Can anyone give any insight?
Thanks so much,
Cindy
I signed on with a local agency contracted by Humana for a Care Manager at home position. Definitely not sounding good in comparison to signing on with Senior Bridge/Humana as an independent contractor. Here in Tn its a flat rate 40/visit whether its initial or follow up, no mileage reimbursement, pay for your own background check and any training is paid at minimum wage. Independent contracting is 300/month per case. That's double the money for the exact same work. I need to write a release letter to see if the local company will let me out of their contract or resign in order to apply at Senior Bridge/Humana in 6 months. Has anyone written a release letter and what did you include in the letter?
I know you wrote this post a while ago, but I was just wondering if you were still an at home Care Manager with Humana and if you were still enjoying it. I am supposed to start training for a similar position through a subcontracted agency. The flexibility sounds great, so I hope it's for real!
I have been working as a telephonic care manager for Humana for several years. It used to be an excellent job. Now they micromanage you to death. We are salary exempt but you would never know it. We actually have to let our boss know by way of aux codes on our phone if you leave your desk for 5 minutes. Bosses come at you to "coach" you about your metrics with incorrect information. The nurses are leaving in droves. Moral is at an all time low. I haven't gotten a raise in I don't know how long. Looking for a new job.
I have been a Humana at Home CM for a little over a year. It has become micromanaged since Aetna took over. They expect us to do more work for free - I work through an agency because Humana didn't call me in time. The ONLY pay my agency gives me is the 1st visit is $75 on transitions, then all other visits, regardless of type, is $45. No paid training at any time, all attempts to reach potential members is all my own time and there is lots of follow up and documenting they expect now. I had to pay for things like my TB shot series out of my pocket, NO benefits, mileage is .21 cents a mile, which is ridiculous.
Only trouble is, you cannot just leave and take up a position with Humana directly. Their hiring criteria is more strict (yep, no more LPN's and you have to be doing this job for 2 years or greater) and you have to have left your agency for 6 months or more and of course, all those members YOU sold the program to are now gone.
The program has greatly changed and mainly not for the better. However, I would still do it with a smile on my face if I were doing with the pay of an independent contractor, which my agency suspects they are giving all the work to because my agencies nurses are sitting around wondering where in the world the referrals have gone to despite having good metrics.
I understand your post was 3 years ago, i still want to ask you how you like your job. I am in exactly same situation just like you said..if you dont mind sharing what kind of questions you were asked during phone interview, would you let me know, my phone interview is tomorrow and i appreciate your help in advance.
I had a telephone interview today with Humana for a Care Manager position and I am scheduled to have a face to face interview on December 3rd. I was told to have questions prepared for the interview so I was wondering what would be good ones to ask. Also, I would like to know what to expect during this interview because I have never applied for a position like this before. This is very different from what I have been doing my entire nursing career (I have been nothing but a bedside nurse). Any advice would be helpful.

Independent contractor? What exactly you are asking?
