Working for the County of Los Angeles-Advice

U.S.A. California

Any advice on getting a RN job with the County of Los Angeles? Thanks for any input on securing a county job.

Specializes in ICU.

From what I've heard..they are in a hiring freeze right now. I tried Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar and they aren't hiring anyone right now as well.

The best way to secure a job there is if you know someone or worked there before as a student nurse.

Thanks for the info.

Have you tried their Website yet?

They accept on-line, mail in, walk in application!

You can download the form form their website!

You never know until you have tried!

They have a hiring freeze because of the state budget crisis. It happened last summer too (which lasted 4-5 months).

I had an interview in lac-usc yesterday. They told me that I dont need an interview because I already had my interview at ucla harbour. They just told me that they're gonna contact the manager of med surg and ask if they still have an opening.Goodluck to those who are looking for a job, that includes me.

LA County jail is always hiring. It is a very different kind of nursing. Safer than most people think. Aden

Are they willing to train a new nurse like me who has zero experience at all?

There is a good chance. First thing apply and then they have you come in and take a very basic medication test and then do an interview right after that.

If you know basic nursing, can calculate basic meds and have common sense and are fluent in English your chances are above average. If you have any life experience with helping others and problem solving, then stress that. Review your Psych Nursing, drug and alcohol detox as well as google "corrections nursing". Relax, visualize yourself. Expect the Unexpected.

Whats the website so me and my friend will try to apply.

To apply to The Los Angeles County Sheriffs Dept Medical Staff:

1. go to http://www.lasd.org

2. click on Job Opportunities (5th choice down on the left)

3. click on Continue to Medical Staff page (3rd choice down)

4. Read the directions and then make the call

It is one of the largest jails in the world. There are great County benefits and you will not experience the hospital burnout that comes around year 3-5 for new nurses. You will find a whole different world of nursing that most nurses have never experienced before. Great benefits. Friendly staff. Most of all, the inmates really appreciate the medical/nursing care. Good luck in your search.
