What are Ca salaries really like?

U.S.A. California

I live on the East coast and work in a large Level 1 teaching hospital in the ED. Of course, we have a diverse work force and several from Ca. Have heard that salaries have really increased tremendously recently. One coworker, who seems very reliable, tells me he was making $82/hr when he left Ca to come to NC(his wife is an attending MD in the ED). He also tells me there are some locations paying $100/hr. Really hard for me to believe this. If this is so, I certainly would not dismiss the possibility of flying to Ca a couple of times a mnth to improve my earnings. I would appreciate feedback concerning this and can be reached at [email protected]

My cousin just graduated as an RN and started at $34.00 an hr.Southern Calif.Plus full benefits.... :)

Agency/Registry in CA is like $35/hr. Same with Kaiser. Everywhere else is around $25-32

DEFINATELY not $80-100/hr.

I've heard the same rumors from nurses in my state, WA. By the way, there is a remote hospital a couple hours from Seattle that offers nurses $100/hr to work (according to my trustworthy co-worker), but you're required to pay your own taxes and you get no benefits. Additionally, you fill in only when they need you. So my co-worker does this on a very occassional basis.

new grads start at $35/hr where I work, this is comprable (sp) to other hospital in SF bay area. This doesn't include 10% weekend diff, 10% pm diff, 20% noc differ, or 5% charge diff.

batmik..i know that i have asked you about this before in this post..where are you in the bay area, sf, oakland, san jose etc. i am going up there pretty soon but i have seen about 32 an hour before diffs...could you give me information about any of the hospitals if possible eg: UCSF, san francisco general, california pacific, the CHW network, stanford university etc. which hospitals have you heard are good places to work? you can pm me.

Some contracts give an extra increase for nurses after 15, 20, or 25 years at the facility over and above these pay rates.

Retention is an important issue. Some of these examples include years of experience at other facilities. Most include experience as an RN outside the USA. Some include LVN experience. Others give an added bonus after 10, 15, 20, or 25 years to reward committment to the community and hospital.

I am sorry that does not make any sense. First of all if that was the case there probaly wouldn't be a nursing shortage in California. True RN can make 30-50 an hour and that depends what part in California. In northern california 40$ is not uncommon but still not enough because the average house is about 1/2 million? The only nurse who may remotely make that would be a CRNA.

What kind of salaries are seen in Orange County? I assumed $25/hour base for a new grad, but it sounds from this post that maybe it could be more.

I had heard that Los Angeles had the highest rates and they start off new grads at 25/hr. I don't know about Orange County but I don't think it would be much more if more at all. I'm interested to see if anyone knows anything about salaries in orange county!
