I have found other threads for previous programs very helpful so I thought I would start one for the new program so that we can talk about it.

So I applied the first day apps opened & am in the process of preparing to send my supplementary stuff. In the personal statement it asks to list your two units of interest and why. I called to ask them if they wanted a general response (like 'med/surg') or to be more specific (like 'med/surg ortho'). They said to be specific. My problem is I don't know all the units. Does anyone know the different units that may (or may not) be hiring new grads?

Also, do you think it would be too far-fetched to choose the ER as one of my units of choice? I ask this because in my job search I have learned that ER new grad positions are extremely competitive & often times the positions available are given to internal applicants only or people with some other kind of "in." All my training, experience, and certifications that I have acquired have been in preparation for ER nursing... So I believe that I am qualified, but I don't want to shoot for something that is impossible & miss out on a position in a less competitive unit.

Hey...I didn't know any specific units either...Just the units the general units they had posted on their main job website...So I just picked two that I was most interested in. I applied also the first day the application opened up! Faxed and emailed my supplemental materials to be sure they got them..haha...Good luck.

I had a quick question- when you say supplemental materials- do you mean the personal statement asking you why u want to be a nurse and all that? When do we submit that? As a cover letter? or you send that after you submit your general app? Thankyou people. gluck

I guess you are pertaining to the Supplemental form that you have to fill out when applying at a hospital, if not pertaining to additional documents that you have to submit. A Supplemental form is filled out after you submitted an online application. It is necessary, questions like "what are your long term career goals, describe your community involvement, why do you think we should hire you", some personal questions like that. They will send you a link to the Supplemental form, you don't have to submit that as a cover letter.

By "supplementary stuff" I meant the 2 letters of recommendation from clinical instructors, personal statement, & unofficial transcripts. Sorry not a good choice of words.

according to the position that was posted on the USC website, here's the timeline :

October 29, 2010 (5:00pm):

Last day to apply online and submit all required documents listed above.

November 22 - December 17, 2010:

Selected candidates will be contacted for in-person interviews.

December 22, 2010:

Offer letters sent to selected candidates.

January 7, 2011:

Last day to sign and return acceptance letters to Human Resources.

February 21, 2011:

Verification of RN licensure must be available on the California Board of Nursing website.

March 7, 2011:

RN Versant Program begins.
