U.S.A. California

Hello to all prospective UCLA Nurses!

My name is Matthew and I'm a CSU Long Beach alumnus.

I'm currently working as a Super User RN for the UCLA Health System.

I hope this thread will be able to answer our questions about the application, interview process and a place for any updates anyone receives for the 2013 new grad program.

With that said, I was told by recruitment that applications will be made available in March. :)

Hi Nurse Danielle,

Congratulations of your job acceptance!

Would you be willing to provide insight to how you were able to obtain an interview? Due to the highly competitive nature of New Grad positions in California I would like all or any helpful pointers to improve my chances at obtaining a RN New Grad position when I graduate in May 2014.

For example, did you....

1. Contact the hospital beforehand to schedule a tour with a Nurse Manager

2. Did you know someone at the hospital that was able to pas your resume forward to HR/Nurse Recruiter

3. Did you have specific certifications such as PALS, ACLS, BLS, ECG and Pharmacology

4. Did you have something special or different on your resume/cover letter to convey your enthusiasm for the field of nursing and their hospital in general

5. Did you graduate from a top-notch school with a highly competitive GPA

6. Were you involved with an organization or had leadership experience on campus

7. Did you have any prior nursing experience such as volunteering at a hospital or working as a Nurse Aide?

Any mentorship or insight would be much much appreciated.

Hello. I am a newly licensed RN, but currently NOT working as an RN. I am currently pursuing my BSN at SDSU and will graduate Fall next year. I was checking the UCLA website for the next the application period, and it didnt say the date. UCLA Health Careers. I emailed the contact person, Sheri Monsein couple weeks ago, but she hasn't replied back. I was wondering if anyone can answer my dreaded questions:

1. Do they consider ADN applicants or ONLY accept BSN/MSN applicants?

2. Am I considered as a new grad RN after finishing my BSN with NO or less than 6 mos of RN experience?

3. What are the other criterias needed to meet?

I am currently applying to ALL new grad RN positions here and outside San Diego. It is really tough getting new grad RN jobs now compared to 4 or 5 years ago.

Hi everyone! I know this is kind of an old thread but if anyone has any tips/advice on how to get an interview I would really appreciate it! For anyone that was hired during the last round: Did you show up unannounced to the units to introduce yourself to the hiring managers, etc? THANKS!

Hi WestCoastHRT! It sounds like you had a few really great interview experiences. I am currently applying for the winter new grad program, would you mind sharing some of your wisdom with me? Did you do anything like call the unit managers or go in to see them before you were contacted for an interview? Would you also be willing to give me some interviewing tips/ stories from your interviews? Any guidance or advice that you could offer will be much appreciated!!

I just applied for the new grad winter cohort and my passion is to work as a pediatric nurse. How did you manage to obtain a position on the acute peds floor? I reallyyy want this position, is there any tips you can provide to me?

Hi Lakergurl08! I wanted to know how much of a factor GPA plays into being hired as a new grad at UCLA. Also, does it help if you work internally? Thank you!

@losangelesnurseee Hi I have a interview with med surg icu next Monday and I was wondering how does the initial interview process go and what I could expect? Thanks!

@UCIRN Hi, I have an interview next week for the CCU/Me Surg ICU and was wondering what kind of questions they ask you for the first and second interview? Thanks!

Hi, I work there, so here you go:)

1. Do they consider ADN applicants or ONLY accept BSN/MSN applicants? Yeah, but it is unlikely to get in unless you're enrolled in that program. I have yet to meet a nurse at UCLA with just an AD.

2. Am I considered as a new grad RN after finishing my BSN with NO or less than 6 mos of RN experience? No

3. What are the other criterias needed to meet? GPA, personality test (if you fail this, you won't get an interview, it's kinda weird), letters of rec., transcript, cover letter, KNOWING PEOPLE HERE

Had 2nd interview for NTICU. Seems like an amazing place to work. Wont know anything for a few weeks.

hey did did you end up getting the job at NTICU? I'm waiting to hear back after being asked for references this year

@UCIRN Hi, I have an interview next week for the CCU/Me Surg ICU and was wondering what kind of questions they ask you for the first and second interview? Thanks!
