hello fellow new grads,

just wondering if anyone has heard anything from UC Davis for the new grad program starting in 2012!

I just got a call from the perinatal nurse manager and she offered me an interview for L & D! There will only be ONE interview and Interviews will be next week monday and tuesday for selected applicants and there are only 2 positions! The top two applicants will be hired sometime this month ... i believe she told me that the panel will make their decision and inform applicants the week after interviews =) Good luck to all!!!

Congrats! Thank you for posting that information. Did you do your preceptorship in L & D? Good luck in your interview!

yes i did do my preceptorship in L & D, and thank you!

Hi there: I havent heard anything from UC davis yet. But my status shows "050-route". What does it mean? Do I still have a hope??? Thanks!!

Hi windvalley! Mine says the exact same thing "050-route." I am still hoping to get a phone call. Do you have any idea of how many people have gotten calls? I was trying to decide if I should call HR or if that would just annoy them. Has anyone called about their 050-route status?

Mine says Route, and I have not received an email or any other communication from UCD. I figure i'm not in the running since I haven't heard anything from them at this point. Good luck to those of you in the running!

Congrats to those with interviews! I'm a new grad working working the night shift at UCD (since July) on a med/surg floor and am learning so much. No doubt, it's hard, but I couldn't imagine a friendlier or more supportive environment for a new grad.

To answer the question about the application status online, I believe UCD does not update individual application statuses, but rather just lets you know what stage in the process they're in. It goes from "applied" to "route" to "interview" to "hired" or something to that extent. And "route" just means that HR has screened the applications and have forwarded them, or "routed" them to the nurse managers on the units.

If anyone has any questions about nursing at UCD, feel free to ask!

My application status says 050 Route and i received a call to interview on thursday night so as calstudent said UCD does not update application status individually ....

Hi Calstudent, thanks for letting us know of some of the inner workings there.

While we probably know that each UD does their hiring process differently, would you say that most interviews are only of just one interview done and the final hiring decision is done without having to go thru a second interview?

Is UC Davis looking for those with above average GPA's?

Congrats on your new grad status there!!

Hi Sallyp911,

I would say that most interviews at ucdmc consist of only one interview. I only had one and it was with the assistant nurse manager (who pretty much runs the night shift which I'm on) and the nurse manager/unit director. So, short answer, yes. In contrast, the two Versant residencies I applied to during the summer both required 3 interviews each.

I'm not sure if GPA is a factor, but I'm sure an above average GPA can't hurt, especially now when unfortunately there's a necessity to wean out so many qualified applicants.

Thanks for the congrats, and good luck!

By the way, if anyone wants to read up more on UCD nursing philosophy and such (we're very big on primary nursing here) to prepare for the interview, here's a good website:

Hi everyone,

I know there aren't as many people on this thread but for anyone who interviewed for the perinatal unit, I asked how many they expect to hire and they mentioned 1-2, in addition interviews took place Monday and Tuesday (yesterday) they said they need to hire before dec 31st so they are hoping to make their calls by the end of next week. So if you have yet to receive a call from perinatal then chances are slim that they might call because they are on such a tight schedule that they need to hire by next week and it seems that the hiring process is a bit lengthy from what the manager told me they would choose candidates and then a committee would approve and then you must get fingerprinted, fill out paperwork, and get your physical and ect ... In addition, I know they mentioned that they had a lot of qualified candidates and that today the manager had a meeting to find out more information regarding the new grad program since when I asked her about details regarding the program she didn't really know what to say since she said that they (management) were told they needed to hire before a certain date and weren't given much details .... So that is all the information I have, BEST OF LUCK to everyone!!!!!
