  1. I contacted NAON and they said that the 7th edition is "currently being printed and will be available for purchase from our online store on July 15th, 2013"
  2. By the way, if anyone wants to read up more on UCD nursing philosophy and such (we're very big on primary nursing here) to prepare for the interview, here's a good website: http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/nurse/
  3. Hi Sallyp911, I would say that most interviews at ucdmc consist of only one interview. I only had one and it was with the assistant nurse manager (who pretty much runs the night shift which I'm on) and the nurse manager/unit director. So, short answer, yes. In contrast, the two Versant residencies I applied to during the summer both required 3 interviews each. I'm not sure if GPA is a factor, but I'm sure an above average GPA can't hurt, especially now when unfortunately there's a necessity to wean out so many qualified applicants. Thanks for the congrats, and good luck!
  4. Congrats to those with interviews! I'm a new grad working working the night shift at UCD (since July) on a med/surg floor and am learning so much. No doubt, it's hard, but I couldn't imagine a friendlier or more supportive environment for a new grad. To answer the question about the application status online, I believe UCD does not update individual application statuses, but rather just lets you know what stage in the process they're in. It goes from "applied" to "route" to "interview" to "hired" or something to that extent. And "route" just means that HR has screened the applications and have forwarded them, or "routed" them to the nurse managers on the units. If anyone has any questions about nursing at UCD, feel free to ask!
  5. Hi everyone! I'm also one of mt2544's classmates and I am the one she asked regarding the commute from Carmichael to Sac State (I actually asked a very similar question 2 years ago before starting the program...I'm a Bay Area native who moved to Carmichael to attend Sac State). I absolutely loved the Sac State nursing program and if I can help to answer any questions, please let me know! I'm a second bachelor's student who entered the Sac State program pretty much right after the completion of my first bachelor's degree (so no real work experience besides some jobs during school). During the program, I got the privilege to participate in a paid nursing internship in a Kaiser ER/Trauma Center which was amazing. I had all of my clinical rotations at UCDMC (with the exception of mental health) and completed my preceptorship at Sutter Roseville in the Trauma/Neuro ICU so if you have questions about UCD or Sutter Roseville or Kaiser, feel free to ask. I've been blessed to have had 2 wonderful job offers about 1 month after graduating from CSUS. One from UCD and one from USC in LA (both wonderful, renowned teaching hospitals), and I start my UCD orientation tomorrow! Needless to say, the job hunt for new grads is extremely tough and if I can offer any advice, it would be to get to know your professors right off the bat. They will be the ones writing your letters of recommendations for internships, scholarships, and eventually for jobs. There are plenty of opportunities to interact with faculty at Sac State, such as through TAing or volunteering in the simulation labs. Also, definitely get involved with something meaningful to you during nursing school (or continue to be involved in something showing your dedication to improving your community, your profession, etc). Think about finding ways to make yourself "different" from the other hundreds of nursing students fighting for the same jobs. In all of my interviews, I've always been asked something along the lines of "Why should we pick you out of everyone else for this position?" Volunteering at hospitals/clinics, working at summer camps, being involved (rather than just passively attending meetings) in CNSA, are just several examples. Anyways, this site has been very useful to me from the time before nursing school all the way through the job search, so I'd love to do my part and help anyway I can!
  6. Thanks gbamerica6. Good luck to you too!
  7. They said they would call sometime this week too and to give them an update when I passed my NCLEX (just took it this morning). I applied for all the units and interviewed for Med/Surg-Ortho.
  8. Nope...I'm still waiting for their call.
  9. I had a short "getting to know you" interview last week and will be going in this week for my second interview in where they'll be asking clinical scenario questions...yikes
  10. Hi everyone, Just wanted to open this thread for those who applied to Dameron Hospital's Versant New grad program for Summer 2011. If anyone has anything to share about the hospital (such as if you went to the meet n greet on June 7) or on the experience within the Versant program, please share!:) Thanks and good luck to us all!
  11. Nope, I'm interviewing for neuro ICU-7S
  12. I'm also patiently waiting for the phone call to schedule my interview. Hopefully we'll find out soon!
  13. If I understand correctly, 12 additional people who applied to cardiac/CVTICU were invited after the initial 23 applicants cc'd on the email received our invitation. So that makes a total of 35 applicants for 10 spots (2 in each of the hiring unit).
  14. Any advice for the phone interview? It's my first one ever =)
  15. I also received my invitation to the brunch and I was planning to go business casual. I applied for the neuro icu as my first choice and the cvticu as my second. Looking forward to meeting everyone :)
