UC Davis 2012
Hi Sallyp911, I would say that most interviews at ucdmc consist of only one interview. I only had one and it was with the assistant nurse manager (who pretty much runs the night shift which I'm on) and the nurse manager/unit director. So, short answer, yes. In contrast, the two Versant residencies I applied to during the summer both required 3 interviews each. I'm not sure if GPA is a factor, but I'm sure an above average GPA can't hurt, especially now when unfortunately there's a necessity to wean out so many qualified applicants. Thanks for the congrats, and good luck!

UC Davis 2012
Congrats to those with interviews! I'm a new grad working working the night shift at UCD (since July) on a med/surg floor and am learning so much. No doubt, it's hard, but I couldn't imagine a friendlier or more supportive environment for a new grad. To answer the question about the application status online, I believe UCD does not update individual application statuses, but rather just lets you know what stage in the process they're in. It goes from "applied" to "route" to "interview" to "hired" or something to that extent. And "route" just means that HR has screened the applications and have forwarded them, or "routed" them to the nurse managers on the units. If anyone has any questions about nursing at UCD, feel free to ask!

CSUS Fall '11 Hopefuls....??
Hi everyone! I'm also one of mt2544's classmates and I am the one she asked regarding the commute from Carmichael to Sac State (I actually asked a very similar question 2 years ago before starting the program...I'm a Bay Area native who moved to Carmichael to attend Sac State). I absolutely loved the Sac State nursing program and if I can help to answer any questions, please let me know! I'm a second bachelor's student who entered the Sac State program pretty much right after the completion of my first bachelor's degree (so no real work experience besides some jobs during school). During the program, I got the privilege to participate in a paid nursing internship in a Kaiser ER/Trauma Center which was amazing. I had all of my clinical rotations at UCDMC (with the exception of mental health) and completed my preceptorship at Sutter Roseville in the Trauma/Neuro ICU so if you have questions about UCD or Sutter Roseville or Kaiser, feel free to ask. I've been blessed to have had 2 wonderful job offers about 1 month after graduating from CSUS. One from UCD and one from USC in LA (both wonderful, renowned teaching hospitals), and I start my UCD orientation tomorrow! Needless to say, the job hunt for new grads is extremely tough and if I can offer any advice, it would be to get to know your professors right off the bat. They will be the ones writing your letters of recommendations for internships, scholarships, and eventually for jobs. There are plenty of opportunities to interact with faculty at Sac State, such as through TAing or volunteering in the simulation labs. Also, definitely get involved with something meaningful to you during nursing school (or continue to be involved in something showing your dedication to improving your community, your profession, etc). Think about finding ways to make yourself "different" from the other hundreds of nursing students fighting for the same jobs. In all of my interviews, I've always been asked something along the lines of "Why should we pick you out of everyone else for this position?" Volunteering at hospitals/clinics, working at summer camps, being involved (rather than just passively attending meetings) in CNSA, are just several examples. Anyways, this site has been very useful to me from the time before nursing school all the way through the job search, so I'd love to do my part and help anyway I can!

Dameron Hospital Versant Summer 2011
They said they would call sometime this week too and to give them an update when I passed my NCLEX (just took it this morning). I applied for all the units and interviewed for Med/Surg-Ortho.

Dameron Hospital Versant Summer 2011
Hi everyone, Just wanted to open this thread for those who applied to Dameron Hospital's Versant New grad program for Summer 2011. If anyone has anything to share about the hospital (such as if you went to the meet n greet on June 7) or on the experience within the Versant program, please share!:) Thanks and good luck to us all!

USC New Grad summer 2011?
I'm also patiently waiting for the phone call to schedule my interview. Hopefully we'll find out soon!

USC New Grad summer 2011?
If I understand correctly, 12 additional people who applied to cardiac/CVTICU were invited after the initial 23 applicants cc'd on the email received our invitation. So that makes a total of 35 applicants for 10 spots (2 in each of the hiring unit).

Stanford and Lucile Packard 2011 RN Residency
Any advice for the phone interview? It's my first one ever =)

USC New Grad summer 2011?
I also received my invitation to the brunch and I was planning to go business casual. I applied for the neuro icu as my first choice and the cvticu as my second. Looking forward to meeting everyone :)

Applying for Sacramento State ASBSN Fall 2009
Hi discostew, CSUS did not require letters of rec for their ABSN program, but they did ask us for the emails/telephone numbers of three references. Unfortunately, due to the California financial crisis, the ABSN program is no more and has been absorbed into the regular 2 year BSN program instead of being it's own 1.5 year program. However, it is my understanding that the BSN program is still accepting 2nd bachelors students. However, they require the TEAS and not the GRE that we took. I don't think the BSN program requires letters of rec, but you may need to present documentation for some of their "optional criteria" points like volunteering in a health care setting, being bilingual, etc.

Anyone heard back from CSU Sacramento?
Thanks for the advice polka-dot! I'm hopeful that our class will share information and study aids to help us survive the frenzy of nursing school. By the way, I just wanted to say that your notes are truly amazing! I'm using my free time during the summer to review A&P which I took 2 years ago and I'm so glad I stumbled upon your website. Would you recommend us to do anything in particular to prepare for school? Also, how do you like the program at Sac State? Many thanks!!!

Anyone heard back from CSU Sacramento?
Thanks for the facebook group link! Hopefully we can get the rest of the class to join. I'll send a message to the yahoo group (all 5 of us, including me...hahaha) about the facebook group. Hmmm, I actually don't have a good reason why I wouldn't want to post a study guide on SacCT. The yahoo group came as a suggestion from a current ASBSN student who left a response on the Sac State Fall 2009 ASBSN thread. "I am currently in the CSUS ABSN program. One suggestion I can give you that our class did was to create a Yahoo group for our class. CSUS will eventually create a blackboard group for you to communicate amongst yourself once school starts but getting to that point is a nightmare. Create a Yahoo group and give the school the link to it. They will send out an email to everyone in your class inviting them to join. It will really help you organize yourselves. Also, it helped us during the program to post files and study guides that we didn't necessarily want posted on official school servers."

Not at all; I don't check yahoo groups all that often myself, as I am also a facebooker and use facebook way more often than yahoo . The only reason why I created the yahoo group was because of the possibility of posting files like study guides (that we might not necessarily want to post on SacCT) which I'm not sure we can do on facebook. Anyways, if you do make the facebook group, let us know! See you at orientation!

Not a stupid question at all. I actually posted the link, but it got deleted by a moderator as allnurses doesn't allow links to other forums . I'll PM you the link shortly.

Applying for Sacramento State ASBSN Fall 2009
hey everyone; sorry for the missing link; I didn't realize posting it was a TOS violation. PM or email me if you want it now, but I've sent an email out to the program administration and hopefully it will be forwarded to everyone soon.

Anyone heard back from CSU Sacramento?
I've created a yahoo! group for everyone attending Sac State starting Fall 2009 for their nursing program. Last year's ASBSN cohort used their yahoo group for sharing study guides, asking each other questions, finding roommates, etc; anything to help each other succeed in the program. Hopefully everyone (all 80 of us) will join.

Applying for Sacramento State ASBSN Fall 2009
Also, following Dude_nurse's suggestion, I've created a yahoo group so we can further get acquainted and organize ourselves once school starts in August. He mentioned that a yahoo group would be useful for posting study guides and other files that will help us get through the frenzy of nursing school. Feel free to join and spread to other allnurses threads regarding CSUS Fall 2009 nursing too!

Applying for Sacramento State ASBSN Fall 2009
I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with the night clinicals for Sac State at UC Davis. I signed up for clinical group #8, which has a clinical from 6:30-10pm on Monday and one from 5-10 on Tuesdays. I understand that theres lots of prep work to do before clinicals, but I'm not sure what to expect with the clinical being broken up into two sections like mine.

It's unfortunate that parking sucks at both facilities. I hope we'll be eligible for some kind of discount or permit on parking, but I doubt it. I'm guessing we'll have to shell out the hourly parking fees when we have clinicals or find street parking (which I'm a little hesitant to do since my clinical lets out at 10pm 2 days of the week). I've also heard that the area around UCD can be a bit sketchy at night.
