California's 2010 New Grad RN Program

U.S.A. California

2010 is fast approaching so I think there must be a new thread for 2010 new grad program. I hope the moderators will allow me to post this new thread. I'm currently working at Monrovia Memorial Hospital which is 40 miles away from our apt. We live here in Playa del Rey, near the LAX and unfortunately I don't drive yet. I'm looking for any hospitals that offers new grad program for next year. I'm not even sure if I'm still qualified for a new grad program because it will be my 8th month this Jan. working at Monrovia Memorial. Anyone could share any info..Thanks..

As far as the Loma Linda Peds program I would say definitely apply. I just got hired in to their new grad program. I start on Monday. It does not matter which school you go to either.I went to community college. Another classmate and I were chosen. I also met a student who went to school in Long Beach who was accepted. That is 3 out of 13 that are not Loma linda students and I'm sure i'll meet more on Monday. Don't ever give up and apply every where. I wish all the new grads luck on finding a job.

well, i'm wrong, I was just going by what I had been told. Good for you! I know they are having 100's of applicants so you should be proud of yourself. :)

boogeysmomRN, I would like to send you a PM, but don't know how to do so. Can you please message me your email? Or you can email me at [email protected]. Thanks!

Hi I was wondering if the new grad RN that were prior LVNs were having the same poor experience in finding a job as the rest of the new grads considering they are already a nurse?

Cedars-Sinai is accpeting apps for their summer New grad program

The new grad program for St. Joseph Humboldt County in NorCal is open. White Memorial Hospital in L.A. is accepting applications for new grad programs too. Also, Riverside County Medical Center is having an open house on April 13th, and the HR person I talked to said there may be some new grad openings.

Sorry if this has been posted before, but i've tried applying at UCLA med center and they told me that i'm an "OLD Graduate"- graduated 2 years ago. So I was told I had a small chance of getting in their New Grad program.

Are there any members here in my shoes?

I am in your same shoes. I am now volunteering in public health and also for a juvenile hall medical unit (with the hopes of doing per diem work because I don't want full time in either), but I would like a full time new grad hospital training program so I want to keep myself free in case that opportunity arises. It is disheartening being an "old grad" and maybe not looked at for new grad programs, but I am hopeful and will continue networking and applying to them when the opportunity comes.

UC Irvine Medical Center posted openings for Clin Nurse I in NICU. The deadline is 3/26/10, hurry up!

i read your post and i want to vomit. my heart absolutely aches for us old-new grads. so let's see - we are just the "lost graduating nursing class of 2009 and 2010"?

i was talking to one my co-workers (experienced rn) who said "i just can't imagine that you guys are going to just be left out there and be the "lost class". no way!"

frankly, i hope that this refusal to hire new grads comes back to bite these hospitals in the butt. if i read one more time "no new grads!" (caps are from job poster, not me), "no new grads will be accepted", "new grads need not apply", "experienced only", i will scream.

while i was lucky enough to find a job in ambulatory care, i am afraid that because i don't have "acute care experience" (the one thing everyone wants) i will never work in a hospital. i have an rn job and might not be considered a new grad anymore, but i have no acute care experience, and can't work in a hospital. ???? wth ??????

i just want to thank all the hospitals in california that refuse to hire new grads. schools keep pumping out new grads like crazy in the hundreds each year, yet very few hospitals will train us citing "new grads are too expensive" and economical problems.

............absolutely................ ridiculous.......................

I just passed my NCLEX on Mar. 2. I am considered an "old grad" because I graduated in 2004. (I sat 6 times for the boards). Even though I currently work as a CNA in a hospital in Mountain View, CA, they won't consider me for the New Grad Program. They told me to go take a refresher course and then have to reapply with no guarantee of a job. This really sucks! Worse yet, the refresher programs at the colleges near the Bay Area are either full or cancelled until September. Does anyone know of any refresher or residency programs in the Bay Area?

I think I know what hospital you are talking about..wish I could get a job there. I think it's RIDICULOUS that they won't hire you!! So sorry! I assume you know about the Samuel Merritt "transition" program? I would look there, if possible. I wish the best of luck to you!
