So, I was planning on going into the Banner Fellows program, but Im getting so much advice not to do that just because those three years we have to work for them, they can make hell..

SO I guess Im looking at other opportunities.. Banner Fellows is definately still an option because from the threads on this Arizona Nurses Forum, I have seen nothing bad about the schooling, but I have heard bad things about Banner itself.. Which, I know there could be bad things anywhere you work.. But this is besides the question..

Does anyone know what the wait time to get into nursing school at any of the community colleges here in the Valley?

I really dont want to wait years longer, and if I can get in months after Im done w/ my prereqs I might as well just go into the Banner Fellows program, and if its so horrible just pay off my tuition...

okay i did all my pre-reqs and co-reqs that maricopa county community colleges require for nursing in 1 and half years...i applied provisional october 23rd 2006 ( which means i wasnt entered into the nursing pool to get placed until my grades posted after the semester ended in december 2006.) so technically i have been waiting since december when my grades posted....i didnt get placed in jan 07 or summer 07 and havent heard anything about fall 07....i am hoping and praying for spring 2008! so overall thats a 3 semster wait...........it really sucks....especially trying to retain all of the info you learn in the a & p courses for that long...good luck, let me know what happens!

i applied in june 06 to and was accepted for fall 2007.. i believe placement was back in march.. I have waited a year for the maricopia community college... The nursing adviser told me that the high amount of applicants and the amount of spots the wait can be 1-2 years... depending when you get drawn... it is all just luck.. depending on what program you choose.. how many spots.. and how many other people want that location.. i was really lucky to get my first choice! good luck.. its the worst wait.. but it really has made me more relaxed to start i needed the free time...

What bad things have you heard about Banner? We did a lot of our clinicals at Banner Estrella and the hospital seemed pretty normal and nice. The staff receptive to students and laid back atmosphere. Good nurses too.

Anyone waiting a helluva long time I think you should check out EMCC. I just graduated their first RN program and now they are expanding the program to add more classes. There were only 19 of us this time around but I think they want to have two classes going at once. The program advisor says they don't even have a long wait list right now because most people interested are still in process of finishing things out. So if you are someone that has everything completed, contact clarrisa at the advisement office for info.

Waiting time to get into an RN program can be long.. but, I got in right away.. applied to PC in December, started in January. How did I do this? I went and got my LPN 1st... thru an LPN program with no pre-reqs... but worked on my pre-reqs for the RN program while I went to LPN school. By the time I graduated, I was ready to apply to the RN program.. and was accepted without waiting.. as an advanced placement student. However, it was a lot of work.

I know that it isn't the Valley, but here in Tucson, I just got accepted into a 2010 class at Pima college.

I had a two-semester wait and got my 4th choice - PC. That was a year and a half ago. I have heard the wait is longer now that the pre-reqs have been reduced. If you're anxious to get in, put in for any college you are willing to drive to. I live in the EV and drive into Phx - 45 minutes. It's worth it. Would rather had gotten MCC but will settle for PC. It's better than waiting.

You will have a wait awhile if you can't get into a partnership. I applied to the MCCD in January, and it will probably be Jan or Aug 08 before I get in. Fortunately, I was accepted into Banner Nurse Fellows for October so I don't have the wait. I work for Banner now, and it's a good company to work for, they have lots of perks and treat their employees well. Don't let the three years of work scare you out of trying for the program. You don't have to be an employee to apply, and hey, if it gets you into school quicker, why not? :)

On another note, the EMCC program not affiliated with Banner is only for Blocks 3 and 4, you have to be an LPN first. Hope this helps.

From what I've noticed, the only people who seem adverse to applying for partnerships such as the Banner Fellowship are those who are going off of what other people tell them, which apears to be groundless conjecture. Banner tells you in the information session that there is no real requirement to work for them following graduation: you either work for them for 3 years or you pay them back the money they invested in you, thats it. To paraphrase the program head, "You can apply for a zero percent interest credit card and *poof*, you no longer have any obligation to us." It makes even less sense for Banner to out and out mistreat you when you realize that there are hospitals out there who pay bonuses you could use to pay off the debt, Scottsdale Healthcare springs to mind. So it is not in Banner's best interest to make those three years hell, especially when theyve gone to such lengths to train you.

I signed up for the program in Oct 06 and was told yesterday that it looks good for January 08. I was also told that signing up for any of the fellow programs was a bad idea. Yea, you can pay the money back if you leave, but why not work for anyone in the first place. I have waited this long and I am glad that I did. When I started, there were a lot more pre-req than there are now, so even the program I will be learning stuff over again which is ok because then I could refresh my memory.
