New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi there! Can Anyone help me with the Bridging Course in Australia, please? I would like to know important information about it and if ever i finished the course, can I be able to have a job right then? We know for a fact that bridging course is very expensive that is why I wanna make sure that i can be able to have a job after finishing the course. I'm a graduate of 2009 and I only have 6 months of training in Operating room.

Thanks :redpinkhe

HELP ME PLEASE...

1) First you must have the patience and discipline to read comprehensively the AHPRA website. Spend time reading the website more than the time spent on Facebook.. im not kidding..

2) After reading it, you will now have an understanding of how to become a RN in Oz.. The first step is actually for you to prepare the documents they require and submit them.. the Board will evaluate your application, if okey, will then send you an Eligibility Letter.

3) With that Letter, you can now try to enrol in schools which offer Bridging Course or Bridging Program(BP).. You have to compete against other RNs in enrolling for BP because slots are limited.. Therefore, you must also read & research what schools are offering BP (example of schools: ETEA, UB, WLI, VCHN, VCN..) just google it to learn more about it..

4) With regards to finding job, the word "SURE" is not an acceptable word nowadays.. the words "HIGHLY PROBABLE" is better, meaning it is major major highly probable that you will find a job after your BP, i will not say the word "sure" to you, okey..

5) Job after BP... it will depend on your experience, you only have 6 mos.. it depends if you are choosy, if you are, then it may take a long time to find one, ..are you willing to work outside city or not, this will be a factor on how fast you could find a job, jobs in the city are very competitive.. most of all it depends how lucky and blessed you are, maybe you are a very lucky person such that you may find work in the city in just 1-2 weeks.. but probability wise, No, you will not get a job in the city in 1-2 weeks, except if you are lucky and blessed..

that's the reality.. pls read the AHPRA website.. after reading it, then post your questions or need for clarifications here, we will be glad to answer them as you may notice we have been answering questions for the past 600 pages.. but please read the AHPRA website first, for your own good, not ours.. it's your money that is at stake anyway..

major major good luck to you.. welcome..;)

did graduating from a university (like deakin) give you an edge over those who graduated from non-university BP providers? I see that you have been employed in a great hospital, congratulations for that :) im just curious if hospitals prefer university BP graduates. thanks!

not really...what matters most is your registration as a australian RN..however, in my own opinion, i was very confident and proud to put it in my resume and impart it to my panel of interviewers...;)as having been graduated from a university..deakin university will always be a part of my resume starting now.

i think the institution from where youve graduated is just like a back up added points factor for you during job application...but the main thing is how you did well in the interview e.g if youre employable, if youve got the right attitude, your learning, your experience, your performance in your clinicals and it also depends upon your referees ;)

thank you. until now i still cant believe that im already a part of The Alfred Hospital...my interview with them was just very smooth, i did expect a positive outcome after the interview but not that much until i was hired. :)

and mind you one of the interview questions was: "what was the major mistake youve made and how did you make it right"

my answer: of course i didnt say "i dont have a major major mistake"...hahaha...seriously i cant remember my answer anymore, i was mental blocked after the interview.

just to share somethings.. minor minor only..

- ryan09 graduated from a reputable nursing school here in the philippines, which provided him excellent nursing education and skills..

- he himself is a major major very good nursing graduate and filipino RN..

- he is a PR which will give a very big edge too versus applicants who still need sponsorship..

- so in his case, whether he took his BP in a non-university provider, i would still bet that he would get a good position..

- one of the crucial thing is your performance in the interview.. nobody ask me where i had my BP during interview and i didn't even write it in my resume... your license number is all that you need in the resume..

- one thing that will give you a big edge though over BP graduates.. if you are a "6 mos. Conversion" graduate, then men you will have a big advantage..

peace..

ohh thank you for the good words...

honestly, being a PR now doesnt make any difference, as ive known a lot of non PR people who need sponsorhip and landed a job than those PR people..it really depends upon your performance in your interview and the content of your resume...:)what the employers are looking, is for the applicant to have that can-do attitude, trainable, good background among others..

again..a major major thank you and good luck! (nahawa na ako sa yo @cioman)

Hello guys, good news...my batchmate who submitted her re-application to AHPRA a few days ago (See my previous posts) & has received her registration. So the wait might not be 3 months in our case. My advise to the others who were initially assessed by NBV is to ask AHPRA what to do concerning their case so they can submit their re-application asap if needed.

whew! great news, bro! God is good. All the best to you and all who have yet to pursue their Oz dreams. :)

Hello, did you submit the required CV as well?

Hi, thank you i hope to see you all here..:) right now im enjoying my full time job at The Alfred (melbourne's leading tertiary hospital together with the Royal Melbourne hospital and Austin Hospital :D )

i personally recommend VCHN and ETEA as ive known a couple of nurses who took their BP in these institutions and they told me that its easier there compared to Universities. beacuse we have compared it all. Universities have their standards to follow!!!im not scaring you guys, after all ive made it through to the gradution day at Deakin University, it can be managed however if theres a way that you could finish your BP without too much stress, then why not?!

Thanks a lot Ryan for selflessly sharing the tips with us. Now we know why VCHN and ETEA are good choices. Indeed,i might just go for ETEA, just waiting for the letter from AHPRA. Congrats again.:)

after you have resubmitted your docs, how long did it take for them to respond to you? when did you submit your docs? did you contact them first?

I submitted my dox last May yet to NBV but it was returned to me around last week of July asking me to reapply to AHPRA. So I submitted the dox again on August 5 to AHPRA. I just contacted them by submitting an enguiry to their website last July. I received an email from them August 23 telling me that my papers are currently being assesed. i just hope everything is now in order.:)

wow that was fast. they're assessing your papers within the same month they have received it. I hope it goes well for you :) i have inquired in the online enquiry form, but they still haven't replied. its been a week now. i guess i should just follow up again. keep us updated on your application status :)

Did AHPRA already charged you for the assessment fee?was it debited already on your account?

hey guys, do you have a sample form of the CV required by AHPRA? I have a friend who is starting her application with AHPRA. Appreciate any help. thanks and best of luck to all. :)

hi. i've been reading this thread from 1pm till 8pm wew! my back aches already but i have to patiently read this.. it's a very very helpful thread to me. im a 2010 board passer and i aspire to work to places needing nurses since here in PI it's sooo difficult to get a job. I wish to be a nurse in US but I have an auntie, a widow, who wants me to live with her in Queensland since she's already old. however, she doesn't know the process how she could help me go there.. any knowledge about sponsorship? i also learned from this thread that there's such a thing as a Challenge test(if ever sponsorship is not possible in my case)? and i would love to learn the details about a review center in preparation for the said test.

Any info is very much appreciated. thank you.
