Competency Assessment Service - Queensland, Australia

Hi everyone, I'm starting this thread so we can share information about the CAS, the program we should pass in order to gain registration in Queensland, Australia. I have passed all four components of the CAS challenge test and it can be done with hard work and a lot of prayer, you do not really need agencies for this. For starters, the challenge test is a 70 item test with multiple choice questions, occasionally with identification items also.

Specializes in General Duty.

Hi! Part B is done in Australia, right? Are you going on a tourist visa while you do Part B, then come back to the Philippines to wait for the results? Will you look for an employer only after you've passed and met all registration requirements or can you do it before the test? I'm thinking about registering with QNC but I'm afraid I won't get a job there because of my inexperience...

thank you so much for your responses to these thread guys. they've really been helpful. i direct my next question to mr. joeturtle and to the others who have already taken the challenge test a or have successfully completed their credentials assessment with QNC...

>>were your TORs directly sent from your school?

>>did you include a course description with them?

>>did your certificate of employment/volunteering include the license numbers of those who signed? and that you have "demonstrated nursing competence?" and of your functions and responsibilities? or did the certificate of training proved to be enough for the QNC? (because that's the only thing i have...

thank you for your patience in addressing these questions. God bless you all for your respective preparations and may all our dreams come true. :nurse:

Hi, these are the pertinent documents that you have to submit to QNC, you can submit these by yourself:

1. Diploma

2. TOR

3. Summary RLE and Theory

4. ID

5. QNC Fee

6. Work Experience/Volunteer Certificate ( stating the type of your practice, dates of employment, must indicate that you have demonstrated nursing comoetence, and must be signed bby a Registered Nurse, and the certificate must be on official letterhead).

note: submit certified copies only, all documents must be certified by a Justice of the Peace, Commisioner for Declarations, Notary Public or Solicitor...and should include the date certified, contact address and number and signature.

7. Verification of your Current Registration

Note: this is the only document that the PRC should send directly to QNC from them...

First of all I want to say thank you to joeturtle for starting this thread and congratulations in passing the Part A challenge test exam. I myself will plan to take the Challenge test this May. The resources posted on this thread are really helpful, though I am already here in Australia with my kids as a spouse of a working visa holder, juggling motherhood and trying to restart my Nursing career is very tricky.

QNC immediately acknowledges the receipt of your documents and will advise you ASAP if it's complete or needs additional requirements. Then your qualifications will be reviewed by QNC and this is the process that will take a little longer depending how many applications they are evaluating. Once they have evaluated your qualifications they will advise you to take a proficiency exam (IELTS) in a given time frame, once you passed IELTS you will then be offered pathways to get your license. In my understanding if you have recent Nursing experience in the last five years your chances of getting a license straight away is high or maybe just doing a module or two. In my case I do not have Nursing experience but they offered CAS to me (taking the challenge tests or Modules). The modules are quite expensive so I am taking my chance in the Challenge test. I just passed CGFNS (with lots of really hardwork and prayers) last November doing self review as you can't find review centers here in Brisbane, so this gives me a bit of courage to take the challenge test. My next step is getting my hands on those resource materials.:nurse:

Congratulations Joe Turtle:yeah::bow:

Thanks for the list of books... I have to start reading.

BY the way... how long does it take to get a confirmation because i submitted my application december and up to now, i still do not have a confirmation letter.

What does it say in the confirmation letter? I still do not have IELTS... maybe that causes delay too. :uhoh21:

I am one of the few applicants that was required to present a police clearance... but i submitted that right away.:p

Keep on posting.

Dear Mr Turtle,:D

Thank you for sharing your materials with us. And Congratulations in passing all 4 categories!!! NOw am inspired to do just that...:yeah:

I wonder though...

How long did you study? months? how many hours a day?

How long should I devote to studying everything? I took NCLEX 2007 and have to brush up on a lot of things... you think 2 months will do?

What strategies di you use in your review?

What techniques did you utilize? did you memorize? just browse thru?

Any other tips? woud surely appreciate it :)

Thanks and God bless!!

Hi toffzter,

Yes, Part B is done in Australia. I plan to obtain my registration first before applying for a job. I'm not certain about the job opportunities in Queensland but I'm just hoping for the best. You will never know unless you try, right?

Hi honeepie,

I wish you well in your preparations for the exam. I'm quite anxious with my part B clinical challenge this coming March 30. Do you know someone who underwent this exam? please share their info if you do. Also, could you recommend an affordable place to stay in Brisbane? Thanks a lot. :wink2:

I waited for three months before receiving the letter from QNC that my qualifications have been assessed. That letter states the required IELTS score and the application form for CAS. Just be patient and use the time to review:wink2:

Hi there,

I prepared for 5 months, but the study time varies since I have a full time job and a small business to run. Since you have passed NCLEX, devote more time to legal issues and transcultural nursing. These two components are based on Australian setting. I did not memorize but I was able to read the books cover to cover several times. Just use the same study techniques you used for NCLEX, Im sure you'll do just fine. :wink2:
