Bought a pair of z-coil shoes 2 weeks ago after much soul (sole) searching. My foot pain of 7 years is 95 percent gone. And I worked 8 shifts in a row. I have reached foot nervana and will never have to waste money again searching for the perfect pair of shoes. Check them out on z-coil.com.
Expensive, ugly and I could not do my job without these shoes. I have OA in my knees, and after two 12 hr shifts would spend the next day with legs elevated and ice packs on my knees. (Bags of frozen peas are perfect ice pacs, BTW.) My Z-Coils make it possible to pound the floor without becoming a cripple. I swear by 'em.
Thanks for the warning about the wet floors and coils getting caught. I leave mine at work and change into them there. But sometimes they mop our floor while we are working so I will be vigilant. I believe the enclosure for the heel is something you pick up at the zcoil store when you get the shoes. I think there might be a little charge, not sure.
I used to have to lay in bed the next day after my 3 day weekend now I am working 8 days in a row, not all 12s and feel great. My feet are starting to crave them so I might have to buy a pair for outside of work.
I look at my Z-Coils as "preventive care".I'd rather spend $200 today for a pair and avoid getting bad feet than shell out hundreds REGULARLY 10 years down the line to some podiatrist!
Plus, the company has "listened" to our requests - many nurses complained that the coil used to interfere with tubing and lines -- -so they have introduced an "enclosed" coil system. Anyone who has z-coils without the enclosed system can simply get it replaced for the enclosed coils! They "look" just like "regular" shoes now!
cheers,
Roy (Happy owner of a basic z-coil pair).
Roy: Where did you purchase them? Does the insertt come out so you can put your orthotics in them? Thanks sandy

You can buy them at a Z Coil store. Check their web site for locations. http://www.zcoil.com/ The staff at the stores are very knowledgeable about foot and body mechanics, and are extremely helpful. The inserts come out. I have orthotics in mine. Strange, but wonderful shoes!

I did and they are working on the problem. For the time being they suggest taking them into a shoe repair shop and having the sole treated. I just have to find the time and shoe repair store. I walked into my son's school out of the rain yesterday and nearly landed on my backside. But then again I'm a little paranoid about falling as I did fall and had a compression fracture of L1 followed by 7 weeks in bed.
