What is your favorite nursing gadget (can be practical and necessary, like your stethoscope or nursing shoes, or just for fun).
I admit that I am a bit of a freak about office supplies in general, and nursing things in particular. I don't take much to work with me, but I am really particular about my favorites. For example, I love these EKG calipers. I have the green ones. I don't know why. It's not like they do magic tricks or anything. I just coveted them for a long time til I caved in and bought.
I love my 24 hr military time watch. And not really a gadget but I love the unit dose antibiotics you just pop off the top, attach to mini bag of saline, and spike! No messing around finding an needle and saline, no shaking and rolling the vial like crazy to get it mixed....just snap the top and shake! Nothing more satisfying
Laser leveler. And Sharpie pens...although we cant use them on carbon copy stuff (like blood transfusion records)...and CRRT machines...yeah i am wierd...i like doing CRRT...and my palm handheld...keeps me from having to look up things in a book...and Micromedex to check IV compatabiity, especially in those patients that have a million antibiotics and pressors going, plus PRNs, insulin, and proprofol, and only have a double lumen CVL. And, i love proprofol in general!
my pocket pulse-ox. Its small and fits right in my pocket. I can whip it out and have a pulse and O2 sat without having to search the floor for the big BP cart pulseox. I love it. I also love my bandage scissors. My favorite pen is the fat Ambien pens that have the gripper. I bought a huge box of them off ebay and have almost used them all.
well, they call me the "bag lady" i love my nursing bag it's purple and has cute little stick nurses on the front pocket...I never leave home without it and i don't have to carry a purse with me to work...just dump it all in the bag and go for it! I don't take valuables to work or large amounts of cash, but the bag holds my supplies and papers and all kinds of stuff. Just wish I had more bags.

Yeah,I love the nurse's totes.I'm planning to buy one once I land my first nursing job.I worry I will become of those nurses who collects all the nursing gadgets.
