Your experience...

Hey there! I am just curious...what was your experience like at new student orientation for nursing school?

Incredibly boring.

Filled out paperwork and talked about dress codes, textbooks, and class schedules.

But then they fed us. :)

Mine was also incredibly boring. I got there early to purchase uniforms because the actual uniform place is 4 hours (round trip) from my house! And I also didn't want to pay S&H for that stuff.

I waited in line for nearly 3 hours just to get my uniforms...then they had the class president (from the class before us) come talk to us, some instructors mentioned some things, we talked about extra curricular things in the college (SNA, ONSA, NSNA, Sigma Theta Tau, Chi Eta Phi, MNSA...etc), a book list, and a clinical list. That's pretty much it :/ They also gave us some reading assignments for the rest of the summer which consisted of working on nursing math problems.

Paperwork. Then some more paperwork. And for kicks, we did some paperwork. Then we registered, paid for our background checks, and filled out some paperwork.

Uniforms we can get anyoldwhere so long as it's ciel, not flared, and we get the patches sewn on (I busted out my sewing machine and only sewed a tiny bit of the front of the top to the back, yay me).

We didn't have time to do all the bonding stuff, so we just beat feet after we finished registration and paperwork.

Got to know the program director who was very nice. I think I was expecting a drill sergeant. We talked about expectations for the program, the color of scrubs to purchase, went over the supply list, discussed the A/U test, listened to a sales pitch from a rep of Elsevier (way tooooo long), met some of the instructors, got a brief pep-talk from a 2nd year student who was about to graduate - she gave us some great tips. It was 2 hours long. We already registered for our classes on-line.

Paperwork, listened to presentations from faculty, had a Q&A session with some students who were graduating the next day and some that just finished the first year. It was very informative, but also incredibly intimidating LOL
