Totally random question... I was doing this yoga video, and in the beginning it said that menstruating women shouldn't do inverted poses. I can't figure it out. It's not like I have a hole on the top of my uterus that's going to make me menstruate all over my liver or something. Is there any rationale for this? I don't do women's health, after all...
Never heard the one about the garden but we were always told you couldnt bath or go swimming during a period, both of which I used to do regularly. My mother swore by anadin for period cramps she said it had quinine in it to break up the "lumps"!
In CA I went to a school that had their own swimming pool. The school used to be an old hotel, so that's why they had the pool. I LOVED to swim, and still do. When we had a unit on swimming in junior high, the PE teacher was one of those "You can't swim while you're on your period!!" So, those who had their period spent the hour jumping rope while the rest of us were in the pool. I knew better, because all the books that I read said that you COULD go swimming. And I would much rather be in the pool and have the girls not think I got my period yet than to spend PE jumping rope!!! :rotfl:
My husband calls me a "fish" because I love to swim so much. :)
...and I remember, as a little girl, being told that women were sent to the garden shed during menstruation because they were "unclean"... Anyone heard of that one?
I've encountered that in the Bible ( OLD testament) when a women is menstrating she's considiered "unclean">> but really dunno the reason behind that,,.. :)
Oh I loved swimming too but in high school I had Pool class second period.... and mess my hair up for the rest of the day?? I think NOT. My gym teacher told me once that I had more periods than anyone she ever met lololol....
Oh and I have another one which may or may not apply... how about
MEN-tal Illness!!
No, but my mother told me that my horse would attack me if I went to the barn during my period. Finally I got a job for a woman at a stable and my mom asked her if it was safe for me to work there during my period and the woman managed to convince her it was fine... wonder how long it took her to stop laughing after we left!
I can't stop laughing!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: This is the funniest thing I have ever heard. It is 6am here & I am laughing so hard that I have scared my dog to death!
In my previous life as a firefighter, we were instructed not to wear tampons if we were fighting a fire as it would (true words) "scorch our innards." You betcha! And the pull string acts as a fuse, right? :rotfl:
That's one I would never have thought of Sounds like a guy thought up that one.
During menstruation one has to lessen physical exertion including walking, dancing or heavy house-hold work. The body demands rest and relaxation and one needs to provide that. That would be after all the a** chewing you did during the 1-3 weeks of PMS
Ooooh, so THAT'S why I'm so exhausted at "that time of the month" :wink2:

I agree Andrea. I've heard that too, and apparently sex under water does the same thing. (Ooops, who knew??):heartbeat
