Final grade for med surg II: 92.67%. Grade needed for an A: 93%.

YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS! NOOOOOOOOO!

But for real...that is cruel.

Tell me your final results. Are you happy? Are you surprised? Anyway else get the middle finger like me?

Thanks!

Fortunately my school does the + and - system. I'll take the A-, but it was so...close!

Oh, you do have an 'A'! I thought you meant that you narrowly missed th 'A' and received a 'B'...which is grounds for a full-on conniption fit as far im concerned. LOL

HA! I got a 92.89% and got my stupid B+ too. I couldn't believe they wouldn't just round up such a little bit LOL

That is a great grade! However, I understand your frustration. Many of my B's would have been A's if they would just round up!! Unfortunately there is no rounding in my program either :(

OP, I understand your pain, but I would dance with joy and kiss my instructors' feet if I pulled out a 92.67%!!

ThePrincessBride, I also thought, at first, that you got a B instead of an A, despite being so close! I suppose those are the rules...no rounding up policy just does not make sense to me. I am a pre-nursing student and grades were always rounded up, but I can feel your pain. I am happy it's an A- at least. Congrats!! :wacky: :inlove:

You didn't "get the middle finger" -- you got the grade you earned. "Cruel"?? I could see getting worked up about it if it was a matter of flunking out of the program or not, but ... The difference between an A- and an A? What's the big deal?

I've taught in nursing programs, and lots of programs don't do any "rounding," and you know why not? Because, once you open that door, every student wants her/his grade rounded up. Whatever standard is set for rounding, some student who is just outside the limit wants her/his grade rounded up because it's soo close to what the policy allows for rounding up. Next, another student who is just a couple hundreths of a point lower than that wants her/his grade rounded up because the other student got her/his grade rounded up, and this student is sooo close to what that student had. Then, somebody who is half a point off wants to be rounded up. Next, somebody who is 0.7 points below the cutoff wants to get rounded up. It never ends, and you end up spending all day debating with students over tenths and hundreths of a point on grades. No, thanks.

I totally understand this and I was frustrated with myself, not the program. If I had just written my paper a little differently ONCE or answered the exam correctly ONCE then I would have gotten my A-...

Yeah, she just emailed the class. She won't round. But given the stress I've been under (finding out that my grandmother has three types of cancer, sepsis and c.diff in particular) and having worked 56 hours the week before exams, I say an A- is pretty darn good!

I have so much respect for all the students who work full-time or/and are doing nursing school fulltime. It is tough juggling it all, but I hope it is worth it in the end!

And on the plus side, I got a 93.55% in Gerontology course and have been accepted into a study abroad program. Woot!

I wasn't being all that serious. :p I'm still happy with my grade, just venting my frustration. Yeah, it isn't that A I wanted, but I will definitely take the grade that I earned.

Generally speaking, in previous nursing classes, they've used mathematical rules. If it was a .5 or above, you rounded it to the nearest whole number. I know people who would've failed previous nursing courses if their grades hadn't been rouned to the nearest whole number. I don't think it would open the door you've suggested as mathematical rules can't be changed for one's own convenience.

You have my condolences. That is exactly why one of my instructors had a system where people could get extra points on exams. He said that it eliminated this type of injustice.

Well, yes, you wouldn't think so. And, yet, a shocking number of nursing students are prepared to spend all day debating that it's not fair that so-and-so got rounded up at a .5 but I'm not getting rounded up at a .4 when that is soooo close to a .5, and I worked sooo hard, and you're so mean, and I'm being discriminated against, and an exception should be made in my case because of (insert flimsy excuse here), and what difference does it make, anyway ...

LOL, really, injustice? We earn the grades we're given.
