Hi everyone!
Interested to know who else will be applying for the 2nd entry program at York U for Fall 2014!
It definitely it! lol A lot of material being thrown at you.. plus clinical as well which u start by the 6th week.. but honestly you can balance it out :) I have heard that our summer semester is the toughest, so I will let u know more details once I get to that.. but so far it's intense but manageable. I know some people who work as well as balance school so you can still do both :) and for your courses just make sure that you send the transcript that shows that you are working towards completing your pre-req's.. you should have no problem getting in if your grades are good..
the bottom line should be that you maintain a B or more cumulative and B+ or above last 30 credits average
@jamd11, If you dont mind, can you tell me what the breakdown of the courses in terms of the evaluation ie. Tests/exams etc as well as if it is m/c, short answer? One last thing, do we need to buy the textbbook or are his tests based on lecture notes? Im only asking because i might just take it somewhere else if the reviews aren't that great lol. Will appreciate your help!
@jamd11 If you dont mind, can you tell me what the breakdown of the courses in terms of the evaluation ie. Tests/exams etc as well as if it is m/c, short answer? Is the prof ****? One last thing, do we need to buy the textbbook or are his tests based on lecture notes? Im only asking because i might just take it somewhere else if the reviews aren't that great lol. Will appreciate your help![/quote'] Hey there.... I'm not in the second entry program... I am actually in my third year of the collaborative program...I just saw the post about micro and had to warn you guys lol! ....So I am not sure if our classes are the same do you have a list of classes and I can see if we will have any of the same ones other than micro? The grading is based on the A-F scale and your gpa is based off a 9 point system like a+=9. My prof is Dr.*** .... There is a massive communication barrier, which is fine, however he does nothing to compensate us for it. He refuses to post his powerpoints, speaks too fast in a thick, thick accent that I cannot understand one word- I even bought a 200 dollar recorder..... It doesn't help. He says his tests are based off his powerpoints but they aren't, he intentionally tries to trick you with short answers ... There is MC (multiple choice) too- his grammar is so horrible you don't really know what the question is asking . So I use the textbook and teach myself ...... Any questions ask away also :)!!
I'm currently taking the Introduction to Medical Microbiology at York with **** and I find it to be a very interesting class. He is strict however very fair from what I have seen thus far and find the class to be very engaging. Considering it is my first time taking a microbiology course I thought that I would have a hard time following along as some of the information is new to me but he explains it well and our first test did not have any surprise questions on material that he did not cover in class. The course consists of 3 tests (two are 20% and the last which is basically the exam is 35%) and we also have two assignments and quizzes which I feel gives you the opportunity to gain marks outside of just tests which can be pretty stressful for those that are used to writing essays and not used to memorizing, etc.
@karina, Thanks a lot! Would you be able to tell me if his tests are based on just lecture notes or is it important to read the textbook as well? Most reviews on ratemyprof say just take notes in class as he doesnt test much from the book. Thank you soo much for your help! Im not good in science courses so i hope the intro to medical microbio wont be too bad. PS. Are the assignments indiviudal or group? Sorry for all of the questions, I really do appreciate it :)
No problem! The tests are all based on his lectures and videos that he shows. He's also really good in posting everything on moodle (slides) but you definitely have to take additional notes and do additional searching online especially for those that don't have any background in science. As for the assignments they're individual. We've done one so far and then I believe we have a paper (assignment #2) coming up as well. It's not a bad class and like I said I am really glad that he is the one teaching it because I was literally terrified going into it but he's very interesting and engaging.
its been awhile guys! I have been drowning in work. A lot of studying to do.
@rajm the stats course im taking is math 1131. Got my second midterm for anatomy back. Got a 95 on it, and got a 91 on my psychology test. So im slowly making my way. Anatomy is a lot of work for a half year course. But here is hoping that my last 30 credits will shine.
@chatpal, man keep it up! I dont have a doubt in my mind that when its all said and done, you will definitely be competitive and have a real good shot on getting accepted. I honestly shouldn't have waited to take both stats and bio next semester, I feel like im gona go crazy LOL. I honestly hope I can get to the 7.0 mark, I honestly can't go another year by taking courses, its now or never.

yes it is : ) It just has to show on your transcript that you are taking those courses and then send proof that you have completed them. btw I am currently a student in the 2nd entry program so if any of you have any questions feel free to ask and good luck everyone !
