So I live in Georgia, I graduated May 7 of 2021. I was not aware that Georgia had a 3 year window were it was mandatory to pass NCLEX for licensing. Well I figured that out too late and took it on my 3 year anniversary day and failed. Now I am met with dead ends and am told I have to go through another RN program. Any help or advice, can I take it in another state? Please some one help.

If you obtain license in another state will the GA BON grant you licensure by endorsement?  If so, you might applying for licensure and retesting using one of the non-compact states.

Best wishes.

If it's a compact license, I should be able to practice in any one of the compact state what changes is the law requirements, I think that's what you're asking

If you're licensed in one of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) states, your license grants you multi-state privileges so long as you maintain that state so long as you maintain your primary state of residency (PSOR) in that state.  When you change your PSOR your previous license either or becomes inactive or a single state license depending on whether your new PSOR is an NLC state or not, respectively.

I suggested testing for one of the non-NLC states as an NLC state might not allow you to test if your PSOR is another NLC state.

If anybody knows what I can do to get my RN license, please let me know. I'm desperately trying to find a way to retake the NCLEX but Georgia is trying to make me go back to nursing school. I literally only took it one time since I graduated.

I was told many times that a refresher course could save me, just to find out that that's not the case

My apologies, as my post was somewhat jumbled.  Reapply to another state. As you are a resident of GA, you will need to apply to a non-NLC state.  After you receive your license you should be able to apply for licensure by endorsement with the GA BON.  However, as you didn't meet their 3 year window you might consider contacting them regarding eligibility.

Best wishes.

May I ask why you waited 3 years after graduating nursing school to take the test? I suspect you've lost a lot of what you were taught.  Look into nurse refresher courses offered in other states, maybe that will be your ticket for not having to redo nursing school. Good luck to you.

I opened up a business and focused on it for the last 3 years. My nurse instructors would tell me that they waited many years before going back, all they had to do was take refresher course but apparently GA doesnt do that anymore. I think it might have changed recently. You would think they let me take at least once more

I know people who let their license expire and went back just for refresher and retake NCLEX..  but I haven't known any that graduated and didn't take the NCLEX shortly after graduating.

Someone out there has to have been on the same boat as me. Many people have been able to come back after 3 years one way or another, refresher course or some type of alternative. Why would the state of Georgia want to make me start all over again. It took me 7 years to accomplish an associate in science. Imagine starting all over again. I didn't take the test as soon as I graduated because I opened up a business and it took alot of my time to care for the business. I never once thought that my eligibility to test would expire.

When you reapply to write the NCLEX you do not need to do so through the GA BON; you can do so through another BON.  However, if you are a legal resident of GA, or any other compact state, you will most likely need to apply to another compact state.

After you receive your license, apply for licensure by endorsement with the GA BON.
